-FLASHBACK- +PART 2
Richie had stayed by Eddie's side the whole day. Eddie was glad to have Richie by his side. It would make things a lot easier with Peter. They didn't have all the same classes but Richie would still walk Eddie to his before he went to his own. When they walked in the halls, they stood oddly close to one another and had small conversations about anything and everything. They had forgotten all about Peter. They didn't even remember why they were being so close, it just felt normal. Eddie hadn't noticed any of the changes between him and his best friend. He thought it was just Richie being Richie. There was no need to question anything.
Richie didn't think that. He noticed everything. He noticed how they were much closer. He noticed how his feet would carry him to Eddie's class. He noticed how Eddie would always smile when he saw him. He noticed how their conversations could have lasted forever. He noticed how Peter slipped from their minds. He noticed how much all of this was killing him.
During lunch, the two sat together and Mike along with Ben sat on the opposite side. The four were all talking but Richie and Eddie had their own conversation going on. Mike had a wide grin on his face as he rested his chin on his hand. "So," he said happily, "Anything new?" He gave Eddie a look. "Any new love interest? Any new feelings? Any new drama? Anything I don't know about?"
Eddie quickly shook his head and gave him the sign to shut up. Ben looked at Richie and laughed. "Yeah, Richie," he chuckled. "Anything new?"
"Wait," Mike paused, turning to Ben. "What are you talking about?"
"What are you talking about?" Ben questioned.
"Are you talking about what I'm talking about?" he asked, pointing his head in the direction of Eddie and Richie.
"Are you talking about what I'm talking about," Ben repeated Mike's statement.
"I honestly don't know," Mike huffed, feeling confused.
"What the hell are you guys even talking about?" Richie questioned. When he didn't get a reply from either, he began his conversation with Eddie again. "Okay, so, he said that he thinks The Outsiders is better than Stand By Me. I couldn't believe it."
"That's because it is," Eddie insisted. "The Outsiders is way better."
"It is not," Richie protested. "The whole 'I don't shut up, I grow up, and when I look at you, I throw up' is pure genius. It's one of my favorite lines. You can't say that The Outsiders is better. Stand By Me is great and don't even get me started on Stephen King."
