"I look to the sea. Reflections in the waves spark my memory, some happy, some sad. I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had. We lived happily forever, so the story goes, but somehow we missed out on the pot of gold."

The last week of school was one of the longest weeks for Richie

The last week of school was one of the longest weeks for Richie. The only thing he thought about was Eddie. Everything he did would go back to the missing boy. When he slept, Eddie was in every dream. When he ate, he thought about Eddie starving somewhere in New York. When he was at school, he only thought about how Eddie wasn't there. He stopped by his locker every day and he would just stand there. Mike would check up on him a lot of the time, the losers were really worried about Richie. It had been a full month since anybody in Derry saw Eddie and the feeling of emptiness grew within Richie. His other half was still out of his life. He knew that if he never knew Eddie, none of this would hurt. But he did know Eddie and he also knew that he loved him more than anybody or anything else.

Once the week came to a close, most of the teenagers were celebrating about school being over. The losers were preparing for what the summer had in store. Mike, Ben, and Richie were putting money together for their road trip. The three boys all told their parents that they were staying at Bill's for a whole week. Fortunately for them, their guardians didn't care enough to ask why they were staying for such a long time.

"We have one week. There are 168 hours in a whole week. The journey there will take about seven hours and twenty-nine minutes but I'm gonna add in the stops, so nine hours. The trip back will also be about nine hours. If we add both, that gives us the amount of time we'll be spending on the road, which is about eighteen hours. That means we have 150 hours in New York- that's six days," Richie told the two boys in front of him. "So we should be fine! I drive during the night, Ben you drive in the morning, and Mike you drive in the afternoon. It's perfect."

"You really thought about this, huh?" Mike laughed as he threw his bag into Richie's truck. "I'm ready for all of this, as long as we find Eddie and don't end up dead because of your terrible driving."

"Very funny," Richie faked a laugh. "My driving is great."

"If you say so," Ben said.

The other three stood together and waited for them to leave. "I'm going to miss all of you," Beverly smiled as she gave all of them hugs. When she got to Ben, she pressed a small kiss to his cheek and he grew a deep shade of red. It didn't take much to make Ben blush, even Mike could get him to. "I know you guys are only gonna be gone for a week but it's still going to be weird not having you around every day."
