"Some folks like to get away, take a holiday from the neighborhood. Hop a flight to Miami Beach or to Hollywood, but I'm taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River line. I'm in a New York state of mind."

The day was long and there was no sign of Eddie anywhere

The day was long and there was no sign of Eddie anywhere. Richie, Mike, and Ben asked almost everybody in the city and there was nothing. Nobody had seen the boy in the picture. When everybody they came across told them they hadn't seen him, it worried Richie terribly.

Maybe Eddie had changed his look, that's what Richie and the boys tried to believe. At the back of his mind, the curly-haired boy couldn't help but think negative. If nobody had seen Eddie then there was a chance that he wasn't in New York anymore.

The three boys sat in a diner at two o'clock in the morning as they all sat silently in a booth. Mike and Ben were next to each other while Richie sat across from them with a frown. "I don't think we're gonna find Eds-"

Mike rolled up a napkin and threw it at Richie's head. "Don't talk like that, Richie," he sighed. "We're gonna find him. There's not a single doubt in my mind, I know we're gonna get to him sooner or later. Right, Ben?"

"Well-"

"Ben," Mike gasped, surprised by his friend's doubt. "You too? Am I the only one out of the group who is thinking with a positive attitude? Come on, guys, we're gonna find Eddie! We have to. I know he's here, we just have to get to him."

"Look, Mikey," Ben mumbled, "We get that you're being positive but we also have to be realistic. Maybe this plan was too much to begin with. We don't know our way around here- we probably aren't going to find him. There's nothing more I want than to see Eddie again but the chances aren't likely at this point."

"See," Richie told Mike, "Even Ben agrees with me and he's the purest in the group. We aren't going to find Eddie. We don't have a chance. This city is big- it's way fucking bigger than Derry. There's too much going on."

"Ben, you're being a Debbie Downer," Mike groaned. "And, Richie, you're being a Negative Nancy! I'm not going to let you guys talk down about finding Eddie when we've gotten this far. We don't have that much time so you guys need to suck it up and start looking."

"Mike, we get it," Richie said. "We get that you're a Positive Polly."

"And an Uplifting Uma," Ben added.

"You guys just made those up," Mike stated, rolling his eyes.

"Yeah, so?"
