"Have a Good night sir” his driver wished him, bowing respectfully.
Shivaay nodded, and walked briskly into his home. It had been a long tiring, day at the office and the clock was striking twelve.

He paused at the front door. The mansion was unlighted, indicating that his entire family was sleeping. He continued in, stopping in front of the dinning hall, which was the only area that was lit. Dishes, carefully covered, were placed beside a lonesome plate.

Shivaay sighed, Dadi never forgot his dinner. If she had her way, she would’ve been waiting for him and made sure he went to bed with his tummy full, but Jhanvi makes sure Dadi goes to bed early , because of her health issues.

The dishes looked inviting, but the lonely table and empty chairs, rubbed away any little appetite he had.

He sighed and walked away, making his way to living room. There was a file pending, that needed his attention and no matter how much he wanted to fall into his bed, he had to get done.

He bought out of his phone, scrolling through it. He was  so immersed in his phone, dwelling in the peaceful silence around him that a soft snore, hurtling through the silence, had him looking up in beliwerement.

He narrowed his eyes at a dark figure, sprawled messily on the couch. He didn’t have to think twice to know who in their right mind, would be lazy enough to crash in a living room couch, when they had a luxurious room of their own.

Anika mumbled something incoherent, and rubbed her face sluggishly. Medical books, papers lay open in front of her, and a pen was poking out of her messily tousled hair.

Shivaay cocked his head to a side thoughtfully. How in the world did her pen end up in her hair! How bizarre was this woman?!

He pursed his lips as she let out another soft snore, that ended up in a snorkel.

Moving around the couch, he watched her sleeping figure from the corner of his eye, there was no way he would work in her presence, even if she was almost knocked out unconscious.

Just as he walked a few steps away “ ma…” a small whimper, reached him. He came to a stand still, his stance freezing in motion.

His head moved slowly, towards her. She was hunched to a side, her face puckered up in a sad frown. She rubbed her hands over herself, sleepily, curling up tighter.

Shivaay wanted to leave, he wanted to turn around and rush up the stairs, into his room, close the door behind him and locking it. Putting as much as distance possible between her and him.

But instead found himself walking back to the couch. He watched as she shivered, slightly. He grounded his teeth. What was he doing here! Why couldn’t he just leave!

He clenched his fists and looked around. There was not a soul in sight. Closing his eyes in defeat, he bent down, picking up a blanket that was lying at her feet, and in one said motion pulled it over her. She moved, her hands immediately clasping onto the blanket, pulling it snug around her.

He lingered bent over her, watching, as her face smoothed away the earlier frown, settling into a calm slumber.

A stray strand of hair flitted softly against her face. He frowned and without realizing it reached down, to brush it away. Her skin was cold, a stark contrast to his.
