I skipped school again this week.

Office papers were stacked at my desk when I came to the building.

But this time, I'm glad.

No nuisance, no noise.

Well, except the murmurs of the office workers.

Of course, they don't expect that their boss was younger than them.

If they only know the truth.

Paper with loads of complaints, plans, proposals, and deals.

At least my table is not full of deadly weapons and blueprints. Or a surgical kit.

And that's the good news.

Because I'm not planning your time to die ... yet.

I've been checking the papers from six o'clock and no breakfast. But I'm not hungry.

It's already lunchtime when my secretary, Daniel, entered the office.

"Cassielle. Take a bite. It's already lunch. You haven't even taken breakfast before you went here." He said as he walked towards me.

If you're going to compare Daniel to other secretaries, you notice that he bosses me around.

Especially whenever I skipped meals.

I groaned. "Fifteen minutes, Dan. Just wait a little bit."

I've been pacing the whole office for the files, setting what's rejected on the top of the coffee table and approved on my glass table.

Obviously, within half of the files, only a quarter of it was approved by me.

I was about to return to my chair when he held both of my shoulders from behind and pushed me towards the door.

"Those things can still wait. But if you let your stomach suffer, you might get sick." He continues on pushing me, making quite a scene to the office workers who decided to eat their lunch at their station instead of at the cafeteria.

"Wha!? Wait, Dan! I'm not done with the last—!"

I was about to get out of his clutches, but he dragged me towards the elevator to the second lowest part of the building: the cafeteria.

It's a common thing to have a cafeteria in every building, especially if it was constructed in a city full of buildings too.

And I'm glad that they choose to hire competent cooks and the price is affordable to all. That's why the workers rarely go out to buy their food unless they're craving for something.

He kept on dragging me towards a small table enough for four. Unfortunately, it was located at the center.

"Stay. I'm going to buy your food." He said as he made me sit.

Yes, he made me sit. So much for being a secretary.

And within a half a minute, he brought a tray full of food.

As he set down the tray, I grabbed the dessert. But he slapped my hand.

"No. No dessert, unless you'll eat this." He scolded.

And he put a complete meal in front of me. Yes, complete meal. Two viands -- vegetable and meat, a soup, side dish, and the appetizer.

"What!!!!" I shouted. "No!!!! I won't eat that all!"

"Then, no dessert." He said casually while grabbing the sweets.

Darn him. He's acting like a father. Then I noticed everyone was looking at us.

"Thanks a lot, Danny!" I said sarcastically while grinding my teeth. "Now we have their attention. You idiot."

He shrugged and continued to eat his food.

I have no choice but to eat all of the food.

"You didn't eat well for the last three days you holed down in the lab," Daniel said. "I know you, Cassielle, like the veins in my hands. You just ate chocolates and sweets to pretend you're eating."

"I'm busy," I said between bites. "Besides, Frankie was exhausted, no one's at the lab checking it. And you know my case."

Daniel is one of the dead people I returned to the earth. As for the story, no need for that. He doesn't like talking about that. But his former job was also secretary, so this suits him.

"I don't care about that. What matters is that you eat! Look at you, you're getting thin." He scolded.

"Liar, liar, pants on fire. I don't get thin nor fat unless I went under torture, you know."

Those kinds of topics were natural for us. He knows everything, as he has a part of my soul.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason why these dead people walk above the earth.

My soul.

As long as they are linked in my soul, their rationality retains, so as their persona and their whole entity.

Our contract is within my soul, and if they made a violation from the contract, the link will be cut and they'll disappear.

Where do they go?

They walk in eternal darkness until their sanity slips away and crumbles bit by bit.

Because that is the worse punishment than torture from others and death.

I was engrossed in how to finish my food and not eating too much when Daniel spoke.

"Hey, Grace! Come here!" He said as he stood up.

"But you're with your boss." The voice behind me said.

"It's alright Grace. She won't mind." Daniel insisted.

I looked around and saw the girl Daniel was talking to. She's a slim girl, her hair was in a bun, wearing loose clothes and eyeglasses too thick. I grabbed her tray so that she will sit down beside me.

The girl looked surprised at my action.

"Sit. I don't bite. But he does." I said casually.

"Hey!" He protested.

"You made me eat tons!"

"It's because you didn't eat anything for the last three days!"

"Duh, I'm eating."

"Does eating sweets considered a meal?"

"Of course! We, scientists, are busy with our research, so anything edible we grab while working can be considered as food."

"You're not just a scientist, you're also a businesswoman! You've worked hard to build this empire!"

"I build this for the people, not for me! I'm a doctor."

"Uhm, excuse me." Grace interrupted. "Everyone's looking at us."

Sure enough, everyone stopped and just looked at us. The boss and the secretary were bantering like kids. And that behavior was beyond their expectation to their boss and what they know of Daniel.

"Just don't mind them." Daniel and I both said to Grace.

And that's what the employer's found out to the big boss: selfless enough not to care in her surroundings
