Chapter 37

"I can't believe I am aiding and abetting actual criminals."
"Step on it or you'll be visiting us in jail." Ray shouted as the tires screeched out of the carnival area.
"Oh please all we did was exact justice and you know it." Joe exclaimed as he dramatically collapsed onto his seat in the back.

"That was exhilarating."

We laughed. "Enough adrenaline for you?" Daphne said looking at me.
Before I could even answer Joe hushed me.
"Psshh. Hmm mhhm baby, the night is still young."

"You've been here all of two minutes and we haven't shown you anything. Turn right here. We are going to a party." He smiled cheekily.

I shook my head but smiled anyway as I took the turn as he instructed.

"We're all still aware we've got school tomorrow right." I exclaimed as they all laughed.

"Well I don't so I can just, y'know have actual fun." Daphne said as she grabbed a random cup and gulped down the contents.

I smiled as I poured Joe and I some cooldrinks.

I saw Daphne and Ray disappearing into the crowd.

Joe laughed. "I like her."

"Not too much I hope." I said before I could even think about it.

"I mean because Ray is your obviously." He nodded his head smiling.
"Yeah, yeah okay."

We moved onto the dance floor and started dancing to the different music. Eventually we walked out to the pool and were dipping our feet in the water.

I checked the time on my phone. It was around one. My parents had texted me a few times.

Me
I'm so sorry I totally crashed at Rebecca s I'll be home in an hour.

Dad
Great I'll call off the search party.

I rolled my eyes I knew he was joking, knowing he was a cop however...

Me
You're kidding right?

Dad
Of course. We know heath will take care of you. Just relax and drive safe. See you soon.

Me
Whew okay.

My body jolted up from Joe's shoulder as I scoured the area for Heath.

"What's wrong?" Joe said as he followed suit as I dried my feet with a nearby towel and put on my shoes.

"Heath. I can't find him." He laughed.
"Isn't he supposed to be looking out for you not the other way round."

"Yeah. I told him to follow us but I never checked to see if he arrived. I'm going to check out the front of the house. You get Ray and Daphne I have to get home soon."

"Or I can text Ray and come with you, just in case okay?"

I nodded. When we got to the front of the house I couldn't even see his car. I started to worry.
My fingers hovered over Calvin's number. I knew he was dealing with a lot.

I remembered his promise and hit call anyway.

"Hello." He said as he picked up his voice sounded groggy.

Great I woke him up.

"I need a favour."
I heard shuffling in the background. "When they said this job was 24/7 this is not what I expected. What do you need?"

"It's Heath. I have no idea where he is. I just want you to call him, maybe he clocked out and forgot to mention it."

"He wouldn't do that he's very professional. I'm going to have to call your parents and I think you should get home as soon as possible."
