“So where do you want to go first?” Lisa asked when we got settled inside her car, with me sitting on the passenger seat. As promised, I relieved myself of my prior schedule just to hang out with her today. Donnie was actually happy and supportive when I told him the about everything that happened last Sunday night.

“Let’s go ice skating first!” I announced with a stiff smile. After our sleepover last week, I thought we’d easily slide back to our usual way of interacting with each other, but now that we’re actually hanging out, it just feels…awkward. I want us to feel at ease with each other again so I figured that if we hang out to the same places we used to frequent, then maybe we’d find our common ground once more.

As soon as the car started moving, I discreetly observed my friend, basking in her familiarity, as she drove in silence.

The early morning light shone down her face, lighting up her features in a halo

The early morning light shone down her face, lighting up her features in a halo. Her blonde locks---now a bit longer---still surrounds her pretty face with the same glow and shine; her full lips still purse in that adorable way when she's fully absorbed; her long fingers still drums over the wheels, following an unheard melody that's running through that pretty head of hers. Everything I see in front of me is all too familiar---her appearance, her expressions, her mannerisms---yet I feel as if she's a different person somehow, and I can’t place my finger on what exactly it is that had changed. It feels weird and contradicting, having someone close and familiar feel so uncomfortably unfamiliar. Is she still the same person I have spent half of my life with?

“Is there dirt on my face?” She asked with an uneasy smile.

“Oh sorry, I was just wondering why you didn’t blast up any tunes as soon as you got inside the car.” I lied---well it's partly true though. My best friend never forgets to turn the music on inside her car. EVER.

“Ugh.” She grunted, “I just don't wanna turn on the radio. If I ever hear 'Havana' again, I might just crash this car straight into a ditch!" She complained, making me feel perplexed.

"But you worshipped Camila." I said, scrunching up my brows together. I remember that she used to listen to Fifth Harmony before they disbanded. In fact, the only member of that group that I know of is Camila since she was Lisa's favorite ever since their X Factor days.

"Not so much now. I liked her more when she was less...mainstream? Besides, I've been playing that song on repeat aaaages before it has been released on the radio, and now I'm just so sick and tired of hearing it over and over and over again!"

"Okay, " I giggled, "no Havana ooh na na then. But can I at least connect my phone? I promise I'll blacklist that song on my playlist."

“Sure.” She nodded, chuckling along with me.

Okay, this may not be as hard as I thought.

Bringing out my phone, I swiped my finger on the fingerprint scanner at the back of my phone to unlock it, but my device failed to authenticate my sweaty fingers. "Darn", I cursed under my breath as I failed on the third try.
