Spring. The season where everything starts afresh, where the trees grow new leaves and flowers erupt in vibrant colors even after weathering the cold and bitter Winter; where the butterflies spring forth and grace us with their magnificent shades of blues, reds, and yellows.

Spring is the season of new beginnings, and last week during Spring break, this is what I found myself doing, creating new beginnings.

Reconnecting with my best friend during the break is a welcomed unexpected development. Considering how crappy my year had started, it was something that I haven't expected to happen. And now that I got to spend some time with Jisoo and rekindle the fire of our friendship that was always there, weakly burning but never extinguished, I feel like I have been revitalized and my perspective in life has been altered greatly. In this short amount of time, I was able to grow more matured and level-headed. I was able to grow as a better person and I think I'm now ready to face the person that I've been running from this past two months; the person with the deep set of haunting brown eyes; Lisa.

With calm and steady hands, I brought out my phone and opened the two unread messages from her that I had completely ignored because I was bitter and aching. The first message was a short and simple apology that made me smile, for she had told me once how bad she was at apologizing, and now I could see for myself just how truthful she was. Despite her clumsy apology, her sincerity was still conveyed to me even with just her simple words. As I imagined her writing and rewriting this messages over and over again, being unsatisfied with her words, a reminiscent smile had appeared on my lips. I bet it took her a long while to finish these few lines of words, and it really doesn't really matter to me if she wrote a hundred words or if she wrote only one simple word that says sorry. All that matters to me is that I know she means it and that I'm ready to accept it.

About another month later since her last text, I had received another message from her, telling me how she wanted to talk to me and that I could text her whenever I was ready to talk. So without hesitation, I typed my reply and immediately took my car and drove towards the outskirts of town, towards the place where she showed me the magnificent view of the night sky without our small town's artificial lights polluting and obstructing the innumerable twinkling stars in the sky.

I spent about half an hour driving and another half waiting for my estranged friend to show up, and by the time that she had finally arrived at our meeting place -with her blonde locks messed and tangled, and her clothes ruffled and mismatched- it was already sunset and the waning sun has almost completely disappeared in the bright, orange sky.

"Hi," I had greeted, for she seems not to have been able to pronounce something out except for a small grunt that had escaped her lips just before the words she was about to say got caught up in her mouth. This seems to have restored her impaired speech for her face melted into an affectionate smile before she uttered my name, "Rose." The soft sound of my name left her lips and reached my ears, bringing forth a longing smile to appear on my face. No matter what I have felt for her before, and no matter how short-lived our friendship was before our quarrel, the bond we shared during the time that we had spent together was real and honest.

"How have you been?" I asked, genuinely wondering how she is and what she has been up to these past few months.

"Surprisingly, I think I'm doing more than okay." She admitted, and I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed her wearing a genuine and untroubled smile. She seems to have lost some of the burden that she's been carrying, and she appeared to have been revitalized with a new sense and purpose. "So, how about you? Have you already found it in your heart to forgive this unworthy friend of yours?" She joked, making me softly giggle.
