I sat up to the sounds of gentle winds blowing against my window pane, and the soft rustle of my bedsheets that were keeping me warm.

My eyes fluttered open and looked outside my dainty window to find small snow flurries coating the small town of Hasetsu, Japan.

This was no surprise to me, considering that our daily weather was always predictable due to our unfortunate location.

I knew that it would be another static day for me and everyone else who walked on that familiar, snowflake pavement.

So I drifted off into my own thoughts as I watched the snow delicately fall onto the faded pink petals of the cascading cherry blossom trees.

...........

My name is Yuri Katsuki and I'm basically a 23 year old failure.

Most people my age have graduated from college and have found successful jobs all around the world doing god knows what.

However, the job I found after graduating college was staying up all night and watching Titanic with my mom while fighting over which Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor is the best.

Exciting, isn't it?

Not even I could convince myself otherwise.

I'm not exactly unhappy with my life though.

I have a great mom......

I finally lost all the unnecessary weight I had gained.......

And I have a basic daily routine that keeps me occupied.

What makes me unhappy is that stupid routine.

Because I'm tired of being occupied.

I want to be captivated.

Genuinely captivated.

Captivated with the tasks and experiences that life throws my way.

But I don't think life could reach me all the way over in this small town of mine.

And as my thoughts slowly woke me up, I could smell the aroma of bacon in the air as I looked at my clock that read 8 a.m.

I walked into the kitchen to find my mom leaning against the stove, making breakfast while she hummed to the sound of Frank Sinatra's voice.

Not a day goes by without me having to wake up to the obnoxious sounds of jazz music, my mom's favorite.

And as much as I loved the enchanting sounds of the piano keys and trumpet tunes......

I didn't exactly want it to be my daily alarm.

She turned around and a smirk spread across her face when she saw me.

Here we go.

"Hun, your hair looks like a complete disaster."

"Good morning to you too," I said as I made my way to the coffee machine, grabbing a piece of bacon from the skillet as I did so.

"Dear Jesus, you can't even wait for me to put the bacon on a plate," her tone aggravated as she attempted to grab the bacon from my hand.

"Plates are stupid."

"Your attitude is stupid."

"Touché."

All she could do as a response was roll her eyes as she crossed her pancake batter-covered arms across her chest.

"Anyways, I was gonna ask if you had any plans for today. I was thinking we could head down to the Christmas Tree Farm and pick out our own tree for the holidays maybe?" she said as a bright smile lit up her face.
