I couldn't lie, it killed me to spring off into the maze leaving Newt and the safety that he made me feel to run into the maze. The mere sound of my feet hitting the concrete instead of grass made my heart thrum in my chest, it's as if I already felt lost and I hadn't even taken more than a few turns. Bark was close by my side and didn't stray to explore which was good.

I kept at a good metres distance from Minho to keep myself from tripping him up as I kept my mind focused on remembering where I was and how many turns I was taking, it was slightly spooky what I could remember.

As I was running I was greeted with the strange memory of a child's story, the lady who escaped the maze by holding her hand on the right side of the wall and not taking it off. That no matter how long it took she would always find the exit. I felt like I had to say something, that maybe they hadn't thought of it yet.

"Minho, have you tried holding your hand on the right side of the wall. You know, that story?"

Minho snickered which took me out of my hopeful haze.

"You insult me Laya, two years here and you think that didn't come to mind. If I didn't love you I would slap you. But no, the maze is too big, we would be stuck out here with the moving walls in the dark if we tried. It would never work"

I blushed slightly, feeling stupid to bring it up. It seemed hopeless when he shot down a solution like that, like it was ridiculous and pointless in the first place. This really is a sad place.

We ran for at least an hour and still hadn't stopped, Minho had now asked me to whip my notepad and pen out to take notes. It seemed strange to take notes, but he just said to do it with anything new that had changed to the maze from the day before, but because I was new he just told me to practise.

After that I watched in awe as Minho gathered a bundle of ivy and in his hand and sliced it off the wall, tossing it across the path in front of me, almost making me stumble. He hadn't even stopped to do it.

"Breadcrumbs. We just kick em to the side of the wall when we come back"

He stated and I nodded, the strange feeling of a sliced-up memory fogging my mind, Hansel and Gretel, the breadcrumbs. I remembered that fairy-tale, had my mother told me that story when I was little? Maybe my dad? After another hour, we stopped in a T section. I slumped to the floor, trying not to act as tired as I felt. I never really over heated when we were in the glade, but now, I was boiling.

Bark was panting at my side and I made sure to give him some water as well as myself. I pressed my back against the wall as I kept my focus on stroking Bark. Being in here wasn't as scary as I first thought, but it felt wrong. I had an urge to beg the Gladers never to return here, like this was some sacred land that shouldn't be entered. But it's just a Maze, the last way out.

I chewed on a few pieces of my sandwich I wasn't really hungry to be honest, I was out in the middle of a death trap how could food be on my mind right now?

"you doing all right there Laya?"

Minho asked with a mouth full of food which made me look up. I just shook my head at the gross boy.

"You're such a lady Minho"

I scoffed and Minho just smiled like he was pleased with what I said, so he did think he was a lady after all? Oh Minho, why are you so stupid? I just rolled my eyes as he swallowed to empty his mouth before he began to speak again.
