The meeting went for another 15 minutes after that. After Alby had finished doubling over in laughter and the crowd had finished rolling about the floor everything was wrapped up. it was decided that nothing would be different for me, I would do everything like a regular Greenie. Except that one of the showers was gonna be extended and closed off for me, that was nice of them.

I left the meeting at Newts side and we pushed through the curious crowd that was starting to swarm away from the meeting doors, had they heard everything that went on in there, the doors didn't seem very sound proof.

The meeting wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, I was told that most greenies end up in the slammer for one night, because I made Alby laugh I got out of it. Yeah, humour saves lives. The one thing I wasn't overly happy about was that I was still allowed to train as a runner. I didn't want that. I was hoping that the job was too important for them to trust a girl in. guess not.

I had a plan, I know what job I want and that's Track-hoe, I get to work in an environment I'm comfortable in and I'm safe. All I'm gonna do is screw up the other jobs, drop things, annoy people, fall down, just plain up fail. But I'm going to do an excellent job at Track-hoe work and get the job, boom, plan ready for action.

I was told that I would start work tomorrow, I was told that my first job, as tradition, was to work as a slicer. Great, I just love blood and guts. I guess I could cut skin off but kill an animal while its alive, no way.

We were crossing the Glade, heading towards where everyone was getting food from frypan, yeah, I was hungry as heck. I was distracted by trying to figure out what we were eating so when Newt bumped my shoulder with his I jumped. Oops.

"wow easy. I was wondering, did you plan that? I mean I came up with the nickname, did you want me to be your guardian?"

Newt asked curiously and I smiled at him, he was a good guy, I don't know how he does it, everyone was so blank and mean to me and he was just so nice, he tried to be my friend, but didn't seem to force it, it just felt natural. He had great people skills for someone who lives in a maze.

I shrugged slightly too him, trying to play it cool. It was true I guess but I wasn't ready to straight up admit that, I mean Newt was the only one I trusted to help me around the Glade, that wasn't just going to take advantage of me. that's the last thing I need.

"Well, yeah I guess, I wanted to trick them a little. You've been really nice to me and done a lot to earn my trust, while the others barely know my name"

I said softly as I watched where I was going, I didn't turn to look at Newt but I could already tell he was smiling, he smiled all the time, why would me praising him not make him smile.

We continued to walk towards the kitchen, but to do that we had to pass by that small room near the box which I had soon learnt to be the map room, that's where the runners write down their routes.

As we started to pass by I heard a loud screech as the door was forced open, it seemed as if the door was too big for its frame, or the hinges were made from stone. It growled with disapproval as it swung on its rusty hinges, swirling dust into the air as a group of boys walked out.

I didn't think they would notice much of us, they seemed very red faced and tired, but that was expected. As scared of the maze as I was I was still curious, what did they see out there? was there more than rough grey walls out there? the musky smell of rotting ivy? Or was that it? What did they do to stop them from getting lost? There was a lot of questions, but most I was too afraid to ask.

"Hey Newt"

I heard a voice call out and when I turned my head the boy was already here, he was tall, muscular, very fit and had spiky black hair that was surprisingly looked after. He had tan skin. This was that guy who didn't put his hand up, what was his name again. M- uh, I can't remember.
