Newt is listening

------------------------

Newt's POV

I bit my lip as Clint fluttered around the girl, he had begged me to let him look her injuries, but I wasn't letting him do his work while I wasn't here. I don't know why, maybe I was jealous. I just wanted to make sure she was ok. He was examining her feet muttering words of astonishment as he looked into the reason she walked on her toes, why does it matter?

"How is this even possible?"

He hissed under his breath before looking at the bones in her legs, his brows creased together. It was starting to bloody bug me off, what was so wrong with her? I growled and took a heavy step forward.

"Of for the love of shuck what is wrong with you man?"

Clint jumped before snapping around to look at me, a confused but fascinated look on his face as he shook his head. His hands left Laya before he folded the sheets back over her again.

Clint didn't make a move to speak for a few moments before he stood up, moving over to sit in the chair up by Laya's shoulders. There he explained.

"It's.... fascinating, I mean I've never seen it before, the injury to her legs, it's impossible that it healed like that. That cut is deep in the tissue, to the point where the tendon was cut half way through, she shouldn't be able to walk. But its healed, shorter than it should be, but it healed. All on its own"

"What are you saying?"

I pressured as I pinched the bridge of my nose, I didn't understand a lot of it, I wasn't a Med-jack, I didn't get what he was saying, apart from the fact Malaya was a lucky sucker. I chewed my lip as I tried to keep myself calm, I didn't care about that now, I cared that had been nearly 12 hours and she still hadn't woken up, this isn't normal.

"I'm saying that her immune system is amazing"

I sighed before walking over and standing next to Clint, looking down at the girl, she didn't look drained or pale, she was just asleep, she didn't thrash or shift in her sleep. She was just motionless, didn't move and hadn't for a good while.

I didn't want to think about what had happened to her before she got here, I was interested in what was happening to her now, that's what was important. I'm her guardian, I was supposed to look after her, I should have been with her from the start and not let her see Ben. This is partly my fault.

"Any idea why she won't wake?"

I asked Clint and he sighed, shrugging his shoulders heavily.

"No way to tell, Panic attacks can take a toll on people, but this seems different, she's not having any nightmares and she seems to be ok. She should be awake at any point"

I nodded before thanking Clint, he left soon after and left me to sit in my room alone again. I couldn't help but worry about her, it was a habit, I cared about her I guess, she was too innocent for such a world.

I slumped into the chair next to her bed, I should have been there, I got too distracted with Ben, I was supposed to be her guardian, now look what's happened to her.

Minho tries to make it look like he's ok, but I can tell he's lost with Laya out, He's made friends with bark right now but still. Minho had made such a good friend with Malaya, I know Minho does secretly hate most people, just pretends for the good of the glade. But Malaya was his real best friend, his sister as he so proudly says. Both Bark and Minho were lost without the little mischief maker. They were worried.
