Chapter 35

Ella's P.O.V

I woke up at 9 AM, surprised Liv hadn't woken me up before that. I sit up and look toward where Olivia would be. But she wasn't there. I automatically panic and jump up. I run down stairs and see Jack with Olivia in his arms. He's smiling and looks up. Not at me. I finally look to the right and there is Claire. I take a sharp breath. Damn, she was really pretty. I was hoping she was uglier in person. 

"Um, hi. This wasn't uh exactly how I was expecting to meet you" I laugh a little and move my messy hair behind my ear. I yank Jack's sweatshirt down. "Yeah, uh, me neither" She awkwardly looks down. "We should go. Um, thank you for letting me sleep here" I nod and reach to take Olivia. "She's probably hungry, but you should stay for breakfast" Jack hands her off. "No offense, but not really the first thing on my checklist" I laugh a little. "Oh- yeah. I get it" He slightly nods. Claire looks between us. I can't imagine this isn't weird for her. 

I quickly feed Olivia then pack myself up and call Sammy to come get me. As I leave I can hear Jack laugh at something she says. I speed up. Sammy comes quickly and we decide to get some coffee then go to his house to start looking at apartments. Sammy's such a fuckin adult. Sammy knew my order by heart. We still were best friends when it came down to it. "So, I'm thinking you have a boy next and name him Sammy" He says as he hands me my drink. "I don't think I'm having another one anytime soon" I smile and take a sip. 

"We can have a kid. Sammy Jr" He shrugged and laughed. "Eh, no thanks" I scrunch up my nose. "Ouch" He glared. We got to Sammy's new house. It was pretty nice for a single man. "You can stay here for awhile" Sam says as he points to a room to the right. "Thanks, Sam" I nod. I felt bad invading Shawn's space so I decided on Sammy's. I carry Olivia to the couch, change her, and grab Sam's laptop. We search for awhile, taking breaks to take care of Liv. She fell asleep pretty soon and I put her in the room we'd be staying in with a baby monitor. 

"Oh, Ell, this one looks nice!" Sammy motions me over from the hall. "Yeah, it seems nice" I agree. We leave my information for a tour. "Not that you'll ever be there" He chuckled. "Fair.. fair enough" I laugh. After awhile we decide to ask everyone to come swimming but only Shawn, J, Ceilia, and Aaliyah reply. I missed the L.A. sun, weirdly enough. Plus, Olivia might love water. Shawn is first to arrive. "Oh hey! Can you hold Liv? I need to change" I smile. "OH um- yeah" He takes her from my arms and I smile before running down to my room.

I quickly change into a light blue one piece and run back down. Shawn awkwardly hands me Olivia again. "You look good- you know, for having a baby" He smiled shyly. "Thanks" I chuckle. In walks Johnson and Ceilia. "Hi!" I smile and hug them with one arm. "G, Nate, and Tasha are coming soon" J squeezed me quickly before running out to greet Sam. Shawn, Ce, and I walked our way out after a minute of catching up. Aaliyah was there minutes later. 

I dipped Olivia's little feet in and her eyes widened automatically. I chuckle as I lower her in my arms. I can tell she doesn't know how to react. The cold water meets up to her stomach as I hold her so she faces outward, up against my chest. "She does look a lot like Jack" Aaliyah looks at her. "Hey, where's Gabriel?" I ask. "Oh.. we broke up a few days ago" She shrugs. "What? Why?" Ceilia asks. "He was- get this, bored" She shook her head. "Ew" I scoff. 

Liv stays in for awhile before she starts to cry. "Here, I'll take her. Have some time to yourself" Shawn smiles. "Shawn, no. I got her." I slightly smile back as I get out of the pool. "You deserve a good time after the last year.." He tries to convince me as I wrap Liv in a towel and sit on a lawn chair. "I am having a good time" I tell him. "Then I'll sit here with you two" Shawn pulls a chair up. I laugh and shake my head. 

He sits and talks to me for about ten minutes before Gilinsky, Tasha, and Nate come trampling outside. "Oh hey, my girls" Jack leans down to kiss my head but I pull away. "Do you mind holding her while I cool off?" I ask Jack. "Of course" He takes her from me and she squirmed in his arms. Shawn and I ran straight to the pool. We splashed Nate and Tasha in the process which sparked a war. I hid behind Shawn as they kicked water. "Hey!" Shawn laughed as he turned around, grabbing me, and throwing me in front of him. Tasha and Nate stopped for a second as we all tried to catch our breath. 

Johnson was filming us as Ceilia shook her head laughing, grabbing a water bottle. I glanced at Ceilia's stomach and the little bump forming. Shawn slung his arm around me. "Sorry" He chuckled, reffering to sacrificing me. "No, no, I see how it is Mendes" I squint my eyes but laugh too. I get out to take Olivia back and Gilinsky just huffs and hands her over. Aaliyah joins me in the lawn chairs a moment later. 

"What's up with grumpy pants" She nods toward Jack as he walks over to the outside bar. "I wouldn't know" I shrug. "Go talk to him then, stupid" She laughs. "I have to watch Liv and-" I created excuses. "You act like Liv is gonna cause hell if you leave for a second" She laughs. "Fine" I roll my eyes and get up, heading toward Jack. He takes a sip of his drink and watches me approach. "So, what's up your ass?" I sit down on the stool next to him. He gives me an annoyed look. "If your gonna be in a bad mood for no reason then you should go home" I stand up to leave. 

He quickly grabs my hand so I'm forced to sit down. "What, Gilinsky?" I groan. "You just look really good, and Shawn's all flirting with you.. I don't know. I hate seeing you with other guys" He caressed my hand slightly. "Jack, do you hear yourself? You have a literal girlfriend. You have no right to say stuff like that. All you're doing is making this harder for both of us" I tell him as calmly as I can. "I know- I know I shouldn't" He looks me up and down. "You do look good though" He smiles a little. "I know" I get up and head back to get Olivia. She had fallen asleep so I decided to take her inside and set up a baby monitor.

When I came back out everyone was in the pool, even Gilinsky. "Watch out" I yell, jumping in. As soon as I pop up Shawn is in front of me. "Let's race" He says. "Don't get upset when I win" I pat his head and he chuckles. We start at one end and quickly to the next and back. He won. "Okay, it isn't fair, you have a longer body" I say as I sit on a step in the pool. "Sore loser" Shawn scoffs. I can feel Gilinsky watching us as Shawn scoots on the small step with me. I didn't see it as anything more than Shawn and I being friends. We were close friends.

Jack didn't see it like that. But it wasn't his place to say so. "Oh hey, Ell, baby is crying" Ceilia yells. I jump out and wrap myself in a towel. As soon as I pick her up she stops crying. I check the time and decide she should eat. "Do you guys care if I feed her?" I look around as I sit down. "No, feed ya baby" Aaliyah says before anyone else could respond. I chuckle and hide Olivia and my boob under the towel. "How long are you gonna breast feed for?" Ceilia asked. "Probably a few more months then we'll slowly work into bottles. I don't think she'll care" I shrug. 

Honestly, breast feeding was a lot of work. I had to feed her every few hours or I was in pain. I look at her little face though and it's like, fuck it, ruin my body. "Hey, G and I have some songs that're about to drop and I think you guys should hear it first" Johnson whips out his phone. "Please" Shawn pulls himself out of the pool. I watch because frankly, damn. I saw him as a friend but one fine friend. Johnson played the tracks and I was impressed. This was a new era of Jack and Jack. "When does it come out?" Aaliyah asked. "One of these next weeks" G smiled proudly. 

"I like em" I tilted my head as Olivia finished eating. "Can I talk to you?" Gilinsky asks and nods inside. I get up and follow him, Liv in my arms. "J and I really wanna shoot music videos for these songs as like a story. The thing is I wrote all of them about you and I really want you to be in them" He tells me as he starts making another drink. "I would but maybe talk to Claire first.." I rock Olivia a bit. "I did. She doesn't mind" He says and takes a swig. "Slow down, cowboy" I laugh. 

He smirks a little and Shawn pops his head in. "Were starting a fire, you guys coming?" He asks. "Yeah, lemme grab a blanket for the baby" I smile. "Hm.." Jack glances at me. "Nothings going on. Not that I'd need to tell you if there was" I raise an eyebrow and go to get a sweater dress out of my suitcase. Jack shuffles behind me. I pass Liv to him as I slide a green sweater dress over my bathing suit and grab a blanket off the couch. I quickly wrap the baby up. "You're a good mom, you know that?" Jack rubs my shoulder lightly. I smile up at him. "Thanks" 

One of the biggest things I worry about is being a better mother than Maurice was for me. Which isn't a hard task, really. You just have to do the basic things. But I never want Olivia, or any other kid, to feel alone. Jack pulled me into a side hug and I felt myself let out a big sigh. "I love you" He whispered. I pulled away and walked straight outside.
