Chapter 17
"You're finally back?" Doug pretended to be shocked when I walked through the door of the deli and I heard Robbie laugh from where he was sitting.
"Yep your favourite employee has returned." I smiled at him, "If I still have my job."
"Of course you do but don't make a habit of phoning in sick but then again if you do want then you have to send Jason as your replacement." I forgot that Jason had covered my shift yesterday but I was happy that I had my job back.
"I'll make sure that he is available before falling ill." I joked and he laughed.
"Good." I walked around the counter and pulled on my apron, "I need you back here because I have to go out soon but I'll be back before closing."
I panicked because I knew that him leaving meant that I would be alone in the deli with Robbie and the awkwardness was kind of still there from the kiss the other day and even more when I overheard him talking to Freddie and he brought up the kiss.
"I'm sure we can manage without you for like an hour." I told him as he showed me how to work the oven and other things that I already knew what to do.
"I'm not worried about you." He looked pointedly at Robbie when he whispered this to me.
"Don't worry about him he's a good kid really." I told him and he looked at me in a weird way.
"Is there something you aren't telling me about him?" Doug asked me a little bit too enthusiastically.
"Nope. I live with him so I should know what he is really like." Doug eyed me suspiciously but then gave up the interrogation.
"I will find out." He muttered before showing me something to do with the dishes.
After about another half an hour of showing me pointless stuff and then helping me deal with the customers who came in he finally announced that he was leaving and would be back by nine ready for closing. At this time Robbie was out delivering a big order somewhere in the village so he wouldn't be back for a good ten minutes. I decided that I would out the radio on to pass some time and save myself from getting bored.
"Here we go back, this is the moment
Tonight is the night, we’ll fight till it’s over
So we put our hands up like the ceiling can’t hold us
Like the ceiling can’t hold us"
I was singing along to Macklemore whilst making one of the pizzas that had been ordered when I heard someone laugh at me.
"Well that is a very unique version of that song." I looked up to find Robbie grinning at me.
"You should've been here earlier when I was rapping along." I joked with him but the thing he didn't know was that I actually had been rapping along.
"I would love to hear that."
"It's a shame that you never will." I reached over and switched the radio off and he laughed at me again.
"Pleaseeee." He looked at me with his puppy dog eyes but I ignored him and carried on with the pizza. "So did you enjoy paintballing with us today?"
"It was fun." I answered him, "It was even better because we won."
"No the funniest part was when you shot Freddie in the crotch." He told me through his laughter,
"That was pretty funny." I said whilst laughing.
"You should've seen his face." He carried on laughing but my laughter abruptly stopped when his words from yesterday rang in my head.
He must've realised I stopped laughing because he looked up at me concerned, "What's up?"
