Chapter 5
"Okay. You should have everything you need and you already know how to work most things so you should be alright whilst I work on some stuff in the back." Doug was fussing but he knew that I was pretty capable.
"Yep I've got it covered." I reassured him.
After finishing sixth form I rushed back home to get ready for my first day at work. Maxine had been at home when I got there so filled her in on the opportunity that Doug was giving me, she seemed genuinely pleased for me but she also made a point of saying that she didn't want it interfering with my school work which obviously gave me the right time to bring up the fact that I had got 100% in my mock exam. I had left before Patrick got home but I knew Maxine would want to talk to him about my score and I was gutted that I was going to miss out on seeing his face again. I couldn't wait to see what move him and Sienna would make next but I was definitely going to be waiting.
I had rushed over to the deli to find Doug working behind the counter and another guy just leaving, the other guy was dressed in a Carter & Hay shirt so I guessed that he was Ste but he didn't stick around long enough for me to ask.
"So your partner seems nice." I told Doug as he worked in the back.
"He's just not himself recently." Doug told me whilst slicing something up.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to sound nosey." I lied, I was curious as to why he was never at work and why he leaves Doug alone.
"It's fine people gossip around here all the time so I'm surprised that you haven't heard what happened."
"I guess I don't hang around with gossipers." I smiled at him because he seemed to be a bit uncomfortable talking about it.
"You obviously don't have good friends." He joked.
I was about to backfire something to him but I was cut off by the sound of the phone ringing, someone rang in an order for two specials for delivery, so I called the order to Doug and then waited for the delivery boy to turn up and collect the order. I was curious about who the delivery boy was and whether I would know him.
I didn't have to wait long because about two minutes later Robbie walked through the door and announced that he was here for the delivery. I was shocked to say the least out of the people that I expected to be the delivery boy it wasn't Robbie Roscoe.
"Since when did you work here?" Robbie asked me, he sounded surprised as I was when I saw him walk in.
"Since today."
"I guess I'll be seeing a lot more of you then." He replied as he walked through the door to make his delivery.
"I guess." I called after but I guessed that he didn't hear as the door had already closed behind him.
"You know him?" Doug asked once he was sure Robbie had left.
"Yeah I met him and his family the other night."
"Oh. What do you think of them?" He tried to ask me this casually but I could sense by the tone in his voice that he didn't them.
"They seem nice. I'm guessing you don't like them?" He looked up from whatever he was doing in the back.
"Don't get me wrong, I hardly know them but they just seem to be trouble."
"I think a lot of people have that opinion around here." I informed but didn't meet his eye. The guys had never done anything wrong to me so I felt bad if I started bad mouthing them to everyone in the village.
__
The night at work had passed pretty quickly and I enjoyed spending time with Doug. Ste checked in occasionally but he only spoke to Robbie and Doug, it was like I wasn't even there. At the end of the night Doug asked if we wanted anything to eat so Robbie and I decided that we would share a pizza if it was okay with Doug.
That's how I found myself sat on a wall in the middle of the village at night sharing a pizza with Robbie Roscoe.
"So why did you decide to move to Hollyoaks?" Robbie asked me randomly when we were about halfway through our pizza.
"It was my only option. How about you?" I asked him through bites of pizza.
"Mum wanted to move us here for a fresh start so I had to come too."
"What do you think about it? Hollyoaks, I mean." I asked him and he looked a bit torn.
"I don't know it's different but you could say it's worth sticking around for I guess. How about you?"
"I guess I haven't been around long enough to see but I have a feeling that I'm not particularly liked around here." I looked down at the pizza box to find it was empty so I jumped up to put the box in the bin.
"Don't let it get you. They don't really like me either." He told me whilst laughing. "You know we should do something."
"Like what?" He jumped off the wall and started looking around the village and I guessed he was looking for something to do.
"I don't know. You think of something." He made me laugh.
"This is a stupid idea. Shit what time is it?" I grabbed my phone and saw that it was half ten. "Shit. Maxine said I needed to be home by ten."
"Your half an hour late, what's the worse she can do?" Robbie spoke way too soon.
___
Robbie just had to say the fateful words. When we got back to the flat the door was locked and nobody answered the buzzer which meant that I was officially locked out, Maxine had warned me about not being home in time but I stopped listening and never thought that she would actually follow through on her threat.
We had be walking a while and I had a funny feeling that we may be lost.
"How much further until we get to your house?" I asked for the millionth time.
"Not far, you've been there before so you should know." He told me whilst laughing.
"Not in the dark plus Hollyoaks is like full of murderers so can we please hurry up?"
"We're here." He told me and I looked up to see that we were in fact in front of his house.
"Are you sure your mum will be okay with this?" I asked before we walked into the house.
"She'll be fine with it, don't worry." We walked into the house which was still bursting with noise.
We walked into the living room again to find Joe, Jason and Sandy all sat around, it looked like they had been waiting in for Robbie to arrive home. Sandy looked the most pissed when Robbie walked in before me.
"Where the hell have you been? Did you even thinking about calling or texting to tell us where you were?" Sandy screamed at him as he walked through the door, her face softened when she saw me stood behind him. "Sorry Minnie I didn't see you stood there."
"Please don't blame Robbie, it was all me. He was helping me." I tried to her see reason as she seemed to like me so I thought I might as well try.
"Yeah sorry mum. Minnie's been locked out of her house and has nowhere else to go. I was hoping that she might be able to stay here." I assumed that Robbie realised what was good for him and followed my lead of blaming things on me.
"I'm fine with a sofa, I sleep on one at home."
"No we can't have you sleeping on the sofa. You're lucky, Ziggy and Fred are out doing god knows what so you can have their room. But you'll have to change the sheets of one of the beds because I wouldn't even like to guess what they've been up to in them." The family laughed at her joke about the two other brothers.
"Thank you so much." I told her gratefully and she smiled.
"Well lets get it sorted out then before we all get no sleep. I'll leave a note on the bedroom door just in case one of the boys come back in the night." Sandy then headed upstairs to help me sort out the bed.
About an hour later I snuggled further under the covers and to my surprise sleep actually took over me and before I knew I was falling into a deep sleep. Nothing could wake me, not even if someone was to come in the room during the night.
