Chapter 15

I felt the end of the sofa dip as if someone had sat down on it and I had a feeling who it was.

"So are you going to tell me what happened last night?" I heard Lindsey's voice which confirmed my suspicions.

"I'm asleep." I mumbled into my pillow and she laughed.

"You don't want this coffee then?" She asked me and she knew what my answer would be straight away but I wasn't going to play her game.

"Nope. I'll just make myself one when I get up." It served her right for trying to use my weakness against me.

"If you can find the coffee." I heard her smug tone of voice and bit back a laugh.

"I'll just get the guys to stop off for a coffee before paintballing." I answered back even more smug than hers.

"I've already told Joe that you're not allowed until you've talked to me about it." She was good.

"Fine." I sat up and grabbed the coffee out of her hands, "What do you want to know?"

"Why did you run out of Freddie's room looking upset last night?" Realisation hit me when she asked me why I was looking 'upset', obviously her and Joe had got the complete wrong idea about what had happened the night before.

"I wasn't upset." Her face changed to a shocked expression.

"You weren't?"

"No." I decided to elaborate further but lie a little, "I was helping him look for something that he had lost and then something might've happened."

"What happened Minnie?" She looked worried and I guessed that she has jumped to the wrong conclusion again.

"Nothing like that." I laughed.

"What then?" She looked at me confused and I laughed even harder.

"It was nothing." She looked at me and I knew she wanted me to explain exactly what nothing was, "Do you remember that thing that he said the other night? Well he said something similar again."

I felt so bad for lying because he had actually apologised yesterday for saying it but it was the only thing that I could think of to keep Lindsey off my back.

"But you said that you wasn't upset." She eyed me suspiciously.

"Why would I be upset when what he was saying was the truth?" I saw her face soften and I knew that she had taken the lie that I had fed her.

"Don't say that."

"I'm not looking for pity Lindsey I'm just stating a fact." She looked like she was thinking about something.

"How about you come to work with me today so you don't have to go with the boys?" She suggested and I pulled a face.

"What and hang around with creepy Browning all day? No thanks." She laughed but then looked at me seriously, I cut her off before she could try and persuade, "Plus Ziggy would whine if I didn't. I make it even teams."

"Well if you're sure you're okay with it."

"I can handle them don't worry." I got up from the sofa so I could get in the bathroom before the rest of them.

As I was walking out of the room I was pretty sure that I heard her mumble, "That's what I'm worried about." but I couldn't be totally sure.

"So you will be split into two teams of three," The hot instructor was informing all of us but I wasn't paying attention because my gun seemed to be locked and I couldn't do the test shot that everyone had done before. "Are you okay miss?"
