Chapter 20
"Did you guys have fun last night?" Doug asked us about an hour into our shift and I saw Robbie shift uncomfortably.
"Yeah it was fun." I answered and Doug threw me a questioning look.
"Yeah." Robbie muttered and I was unsure whether he knew that he was forgiven or not.
"Why do I have a funny feeling that you two are hiding something?" Doug asked us whilst look between both of us.
"Because you're paranoid." I told him and shot him a look that told him to drop it.
"Very funny." He said and then turned his attention back to the order that he was getting ready for Robbie.
Robbie came to stand with me and looked to see if Doug was listening before talking to me.
"I honestly thought that you had left." He told me and I believed him, I was unsure whether I believed him because I wanted to or because he was actually telling the truth.
"It's fine. I was at the bar for ages so I can understand why you thought that I had left." I assured him and he looked relieved.
"I want to make it up to you. How about we go see a film tomorrow?" He suggested and I was about to reply when Doug came through with the order.
"I don't pay you two love birds to stand around flirting." Doug handed Robbie the bag and the addresses.
"We'll talk later?" He asked me before leaving and I nodded my head in response.
"So what actually happened last night?" Doug asked me when we were quiet in the deli.
"All I can say is that it didn't exactly go to plan." I answered him whilst wiping down the counter.
"And that means?"
"It means that I ended up getting drugged and Robbie left me so his brother had to come and get me." His eyes widened in shock and I realised how bad it actually sounded.
"You're kidding right? And you actually forgave him?"
I rolled my eyes, "You sound like Freddie."
"I'm guessing he was the brother who saved you?" I nodded my head, "And how exactly did he take it when you announced that you had forgiven him?"
"Not too good but to be honest it has nothing to do with him."
"Of course it has something to do with him, he was the one who came to look for you when Robbie had left you. Did you even thank him?"
I thought back to the conversation that I had with Freddie earlier in the day and I realised that I hadn't thanked him at all, "No. All I did was shout at him." I hung my head in shame.
"I think you have a lot of making up to do and I think that you shouldn't forgive Robbie so easily." Doug said and I knew that it would take a lot for Freddie to forgive me and I was totally in the wrong for just believing Robbie like I did.
I suddenly remembered something, "Doug I was wondering if it would be okay if I was like an hour late tomorrow. I don't know whether I actually will be but in case I am."
"If it's to go on your cinema date with Robbie, no." He answered me bluntly.
"You overheard that?" He didn't respond, "It's not that, I'm off to see some family tomorrow but I don't when I'm going to be back."
He looked at me as if to judge whether I was telling the truth or not, "So why didn't you tell Robbie that when he asked you to go to the cinema?"
"Because you didn't give me the opportunity."
