Dragon Child: The Journey Begins

Chapter 3

So here's a question. What exactly is a highness? Does it mean a being that can soar through the sky, high above the earth? If so, I wanna be a highness too!

Although, I sort of get the feeling that perhaps highness means something else. After all, Mr. Sky Blue dragon flew from the air himself! If highness meant flying high above the earth, then he was one too. If so, he didn't have to go out of his way to call my mother highness.  But he did. I really can't figure out this situation.

"Your highness!" Oh, he said it again!  Hmm, okay mom, how will you respond? I'm looking forward to it!

Although I must admit, I'm really restraining the urge to laugh right now. Did you know? My mother is a majestic dragon. She stands taller than the surrounding trees when upright.  I would have to have over twenty of myself standing one on top of the other to reach her height!  She was three times as long as she was tall!  Truly majestic!

Well, there's a reason I bring this up.  Mr. Sky Blue is twice my mother's size.  That's forty of me standing one on top of the other!  It's truly an amazingly large size.

And right now, he's prostrating before my mother!  His head is now barely below where she stands, though! It's even touching the dirt!  It's a hilarious sight to see, truly it is!

While I was desperately holding back the ever growing urge to laugh out loud at the hilariousness of the situation, Mom was glaring at the other dragon and seemed about to speak!

"Who are you, and why are you attacking my hatchling? Depending on your answer, I will let you live or I will kill you as you stand. Speak!" Wow! Such harsh words! But I wonder why she didn't say anything to the 'highness' thing he was spouting?  I am really curious now!  Is it some kind of nick name?

"My name is Skylos. I am a humble dragon guardian of the sky clan."  Hmm, seems like a respectable type title came out.  Although, I'm not too sure what a dragon guardian is, it seems important. Well, important enough that he mentioned it, anyway.

"AND?" Gee, my mom sure isn't cutting him any slack!

"Your highness!  I meant no disrespect! You child must have been cursed! I did not know him for a dragon, he merely looked like a puny human! Forgive me my mistake!"  Whoa, did he just call me puny? I mean, I am, but to say it in front of me, like I'm not even here to hear him!

"My hatchling IS a human. A baby that I had found. And whether or not you knew this does not matter.  You have entered MY territory! Explain why you thought to hunt in another dragon's territory!"  Wow, she's laying it on thick! How are you gonna respond now, Mr. Sky Blue....er,  I mean, Skylos, the sky dragon guardian.

"A human?! Why....? No, I mean, I apologize!  I lost myself to hunger after a long journey! Please forgive me! I have been searching for you for the past ten years, your highness!  You must return!"  He's really stuck on me being a human.  And where exactly does he want to take my mom?

"I refuse." That was blunt. But I like it! Straight and to the point!  I'd like to see you try and take serious mom by force!

"But, but, your highness!" He sure is stumbling over his words a lot.

"I left for a reason. I have no intention of returning." You tell him!

"But....." Oh come on! Give it a rest already, Mr. Sky Bl.....Skylos!

"Besides, I refuse to leave a half grown hatchling to fend for himself! Now, leave at once." Yeah, leave at.....ugh! Now why did Mom just pick me up in her mouth again?

And, with a jolt, we're off! I sure have some questions for mom!  I have a feeling she's taking us to the den.

The den is actually a deep cave in a small mountain that resides in this forest.  Mom found it when I was a baby. Although, over the years it's changed a bit. Mom dug deep into the earth and made several rooms.  One is very nice, as she dug up an entire room full of shiny red and green crystals!  When the light hits them just right, they sparkle! Truly a sight to behold!
