The Benefit

A lot of us
Are an insipiration to the nation,
But how many of us inspire ourselves?
We open hearts, we give them dreams
But we steal our own, it seems.
We pat some backs, we give some smiles,
But what happens when we're alone for a while?
What type of hope feeds our soul,
When we give it to so many?
Enlightened we make them,
But does it profit us any?
We make the eyes smile and the cheeks blush,
We make the soul sing and the hearts rush,
But we stomp our selves down,
And face our accomplishments with a frown.
We know so much,
But yet with ourselves do so little.
We give gallons of salvation to other people,
But for ourselves we leave a spittle.
Why do we constantly do the opposite of what we say?
Yet we want others to follow.
We want to solve people's problems anyway.
We do not get to choose who we think needs saving.
We may be heros
But what kind of path are we really paving?
Sure people need comfort and motivation
But we do too.
Don't exclude ourselves from the equation.
Experience can be a healthier saviour,
Than sound advice from a friend.
Not every victory needs a death,
Not every hero needs to meet his end.
Being willing may just be enough,
But these are the ones that are endangered.
Let's take precaution ourselves,
We can't leave our job to a stranger.
We need to be preserved
All the happiness, hope, love, motivation
We also deserve.
Make us proud, be our change
For what's the benefit in helping everyone
Once in a lifetime
But we can't even save ourselves.
