The once ivory snow was now colored in a deep shade of crimson. Some parts of it reminded him of the snowberries that would bloom in the wintry mornings of Skyrim.
Ah snowberries, (y/n)'s favorite fruit, no matter how bad of a day she was having, anything made from these berries would make her smile.
A smile crept up his lips as he thought of those days, she would happily embrace Vilkas whenever he bought her these fruits. The warm embrace of her, her sweet smell and of all the sound of her chuckle. Such a sweet woman, he would never see again.
The smile died as he looked at the motionless woman in his arms, she looked like she was sleeping but without a heartbeat or a breath. There weren't any of those small snores from her like he used to hear at times when (y/n) fell asleep on his shoulders after a tiring day of combat. Or the heartbeat Vilkas felt when he used to hold her against him, gazing into her (e/c) eyes and brushing her soft (h/c) hair. (Y/n) often used to huddle up close to the companion, whenever they would be put into the cold weather of Skyrim, Vilkas would wrap his arms around her and embrace her as an excuse to keep her warm.
But in reality they both wanted to as close to each other as possible, gazing into each other's eyes and quietly talking until they fell asleep.
Vilkas would miss the innocent gaze she stared at him with, sometimes filled with mischief or sometimes with sadness.
A single tear fell on (y/n)'s cold face, Vilkas felt devastated and lonely. As if everything was snatched away from him, the painful scream was the last sound of her beautiful voice he heard as the female fell into her death.
Vilkas has already slain these silverhand attackers but that wouldn't bring his dear (y/n) back to him, she was gone... she has left him to travel into the misty groves of Sovngarde. And knowing the Hircine's curse, Vilkas will never meet her again. The thought alone was enough to strike into his heart like a sword, but it was the truth, no matter how bitter it might be.
Oh how he would miss her laughter as they sat under the trees in hot afternoons, her soft touch on his dark hair putting wildflowers on them and calling him little wolfy.
Vilkas would often laugh off but would gently push her and slightly glare if she didn't stop bothering him, of course they would both laugh out loudly after a few moments of staring competition.
The female would then wrap her arms around him and quietly linger in his embrace, having a number of unasked questions in the air.
(Y/n) would at times look at him and ask "Vilkas if something bad ever happened to me... what would you do?"
"Let's pray to the gods that something like that would never happen but if it does, I shall forever mourn your death and kill for the peace of your soul like any shield sibling would do" he would reply
"Aww come on, I know that I'm... that we're just not shield siblings..." she mischievously smiled
"Is that so? I assume you are going to say that we were having an entirely different relationship all this long" Vilkas jokingly replied
"Vilkas... how did you know that I love you, in all these years of my training, I've fallen for you and losing you would break me" she trailed off and buried her head in his chest.
Vilkas protectively wrapped his arms around her and kissed her head gently, slightly shocked by her answer but happy nonetheless, he had loved her all this long as well but couldn't say so, fearing it might ruin the relationship between them
"I love you as well... and I always shall" he quietly said as they sat peacefully in each other's arms, until they fell asleep.Oh such sweet memories, only to exist in his mind, just to smile upon remembering them... only to have the sadness creep up his mind over again.
"You shall always be in my heart (y/n)... I love you and will continue to do so until death embraces me..." Vilkas mutters and softly kisses her forehead, saying his final goodbyes to the deceased lover...
