Gwendolyn.
Why me?
Why have I been doomed to suffer like this?
These were my thoughts as we sat around the table.
Everett kept whispering to my dad and his glare worsened each time. Chase had put his head on my lap and kept growling at Xavier.
My mother was making sure that everyone's plate was heaped with food before seating herself beside my father.
"So Xavier, how's life in your line of work?" My father asked.
Xavier responded immediately. "Pretty good actually. My company alone makes billions by the day."
I could see that Everett and my dad were impressed, no matter how hard they tried to hide it.
Xavier's hand found mine under the table and he didn't let it go, even when Chase barked at him.
"You know it's considered informal to date your employees." Everett said.
"I consider Gwendolyn to be so much more than an employee due to our current circumstances." Xavier took a sip of his drink.
"What circumstances?" My father asked. "She works for you."
Xavier squeezed my hand. "She's pregnant."
"With twins." I added.
My mom clapped. "Finally. I thought we'd have to wait for Lavender."
My dad got up and shook Xavier's hand. "Welcome to the family kid."
What the fuck?

Xavier
"So how does it feel to be the elephant in the room." Everett asked.
"How does it feel to know that I fucked your sister." I looked at him out of the side of my eye.
"Touché." He responded. "But seriously, twins?"
"Would I lie?" I handed him the smooth manila envelope from my pocket.
He looked over the pictures. "I knew my parents wanted grandkids but I never thought Gwendolyn took them seriously."
"Talking about me?" Gwendolyn leaned against the doorway beside her parents.
They had left the table soon after dinner to 'talk'.
I don't know why.
I will do everything in my power to keep her happy.
I will never leave her.
I will always cherish her and our children.
Maybe even love her.
The thought made me put my cup down. She walked straight into my waiting arms.
"So?" I asked.
"They want to be there when I give birth for some reason." She rolled her eyes. "My mom's going to guide me through this whole thing apparently."
She took the ultrasound from her brother and showed her sister, who I'm guessing was still oblivious because no one had bothered to tell her.
