Gwendolyn

I tracked my way back to the kitchen. He wasn't there. I checked the gym, living room, dining room, front hall, basically everything on the first level of the house.

I was starting to get hungry, since I hadn't had dinner yesterday, and went back to the kitchen.

I looked in most of the drawers before stopping at the knife drawer.

When I moved the knives the projected a sound, like the drawer was hollow.

I searched around the edges and the false bottom lifted up to reveal  three guns and a lot of ammunition. I put the drawer back like I found it before I could be caught.

They were just for protection. Right?

I left the kitchen quickly and decided to start exploring the second level.

I found a library, a game room, a storage room, plenty of other bedrooms and bathrooms.

I looked through some of the books in the library. This room even had its own restricted section.

I picked some books at random and took them back to my designated room.

Sometime in the afternoon, after I had fallen asleep reading something called 'A murder in Pleasantview' Xavier entered the room. "You've been here for a total of 6 hours and you're already breaking rules."

"You haven't exactly been around for me to 'make my prescence known', so you and your rules can kiss my ass." I said.

"You seem upset." He sat on the end of the bed. "Why?"

"Nothing." I responded and pushed my books aside.

I got up and started taking the curlers out of my hair. The next time I wanted curls I would use a flat-iron.

"What are you wearing?!" He eyes scanned my outfit.

"Pajamas." I responded.

Nobody was going to see my pajamas so it didn't matter what they were. Even if they were some bright blue short shorts and a white, spaghetti string t-shirt.

"Very revealing pajamas." He said and looked anywhere but me.

I changed the subject. "So...dinner? If you're going to invite me here I at least expected you to provide food."

"I can cook the bare minimum and that's about it." He said.

"Ok so you can't feed yourself. Look's like I'm looking after you just as much as you're looking out for me." I said and left the room.

He was quick to follow me.

I made some chicken fettucine with some ingredients he helped me find.

"This is really good." He said after taking his first bite.

I finished off my plate and watched him eat two more plates.

Then I sat on the kitchen counter as he washed the dishes.

His arms flexed as he rinsed plates and I couldn't help but watch.

"I'm going out on Friday." I said.

He turned off the water. "Where?"

"Out." I said.

"If you can't tell me where then you're not going." He dried his hands.

"You're not my Father." I pointed out.

He shrugged and leaned against the counter opposite me. "Doesn't matter. I need to keep you safe since it's my fault you've been mixed up in all of this in the first place."

"Chilll. Evelyn and I are just going to some club." I said.

He smirked at the floor. "You do realize it was a set-up."

"Yes. But this might actually be good for Evelyn." I said.

Plus the fact that he hasn't seen me drunk.

"I've heard Ms.Woods discussing some times you were drunk with other employees." He said. "You've been banned from a club because you threw a stool at the bouncer."

I laughed remembering. "I was fully sober that time. He was just getting too handsy."

"Gwendolyn stools in club are nailed to the floor." He pointed out.

"Well maybe I did have one or two sips that day." I defended myself. "But we're not going to that club anyway."

"Whatever. What matters is that you don't get drunk." He said. "Who knows what you might do."

I shrugged and he muttered something under his breath.

"What did you say?" I asked.

He cleared his throat. "I asked what you were going to wear."

"You'll see on Friday." I hopped off the counter and walked past him.

When I got back to my room I turned on the TV and sat on the bed waiting for sleep.

Just me and my thoughts. I heard some sounds but I just assumed it was Xavier.

I was alone with my thoughts.

My puzzles too.

The lady's face was still vivid in my head.

I could still feel the warmness on my cheek.

I got under the covers just as the commercials ended and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song started playing.

Wait. Hold the damn phone.

Xavier says that we are boss and assistant. Nothing more.

Bosses and assistants don't kiss.

Bosses and assistant don't spend time in one another's office.

Bosses and assistant don't share fond memories.

Bosses and assistants don't like each others presence.

Bosses and assistants most certainly don't share a house.

Bosses and assistants don't go on lunch dates.

Damn. Bosses and assistants sound so damn boring.

I began to doze off but just before my eyes closed completely I saw Xavier, standing in the door way to the room.

He looked angry and he punched the wall. Then he closed the door.
