Video: When you realize you ain't no hero by King Bach.
Gwendolyn
I was so lost in my thoughts that I had completely forgotten about my leggings being ripped open.
I searched a few rooms before finding a dressing where I'm suprised I found a pair of short shorts. They were decent.
I looked down at the bracelet.
Once someone sees that bracelet while you dance they'll know you don't sleep around.
Was it sad to say that at some point in time I saw myself having a future with Damien?
Then things went south so fast.
But I truly am grateful he cheated on me. In a way he had given me mercy.
Footsteps echoed to my left so I strapped on the bracelet and made my way back to the room.
Miranda looked up at me when I walked in. "I told Serena to stay put. They're sending our outfits for today."
"We start today?!" I asked. "Despicable."
"I know right." She said.
"I should feed them first though." I said. "How long do we have to do this?"
"Till they tell us we can stop." She said. "It's not that bad."
"Miranda I just had kids and it took so much for me to keep this from my family." I said. "I can't, I won't get back on that pole."
"Gwendolyn we don't necessarily have a choice if you want to have any chance at all to see Xavier again." She said. "Besides I'll be there with you so you won't have to do it alone. Perhaps even provide a tip for beginners such as myself."
"I don't want to." I flopped down on my bed and stared at the ceiling. "But I'll do it. For Xander and Aliyah."
"That's the spirit." Miranda said. "Now lighten up, their here."
I listened and my ears picked up the clicking of prada heels, heading our way.
I felt like crying all over again but I put myself back in check just before the door opened.
Two woman, who were almost entirely naked rushed over to us.
"Come on. You two are supposed to be on stage within the hour." The first one said. "I'm Brittany, that's Stacy but out there they call us nutritious and delicious."
"How many pairs of twins do they have here?" I questioned.
"The difference between us and the Marshalls is that we know other people matter and we want to go home." Stacy said.
"So we've been been that one of you already has expirience in being a stripper." Brittany said, pulling out a makeup kit. "I'll do your makeup."
"That would be me." I said quietly.
"Oh cool. Everyone is excited to see what you can do." Brittany said.
Stacy painted Miranda's nails while Brittany did my makeup and when they were finished, we exchanged places.
After the makeup had set and the nude polish had dried Stacy started to decide which of the two outfits that they had brought looked better on who.
"Ok both of you just take all of your clothes off." Brittany demanded.
"I think we better put her in the red outfit." Stacy said.
Brittany nodded. "I agree. So Marquis told us that you already have a pen name but what about her?"
Miranda was seething as they tried to pick out her name. "How about Miranda?"
"We'll figure it out later." Stacy said. "But we have to get you two out there now."
I dresses in the slim red lingerie that somehow managed to hide all my extra pounds. The entire back cut out and was held together by two course strips of fabric.
Miranda's left a little to imagination. To describe hers I'd say a bright pink leotard.
"I've really lost all of my dignity now." Miranda said under her breath.
The finishing touch to our outfits were blankets.
"No one outside of the special room is allowed to see us. They have to have clearance." Brittany informed us. "We'll get you some shoes when we get there."
And just like Miranda and I were princesses. Not only did we have the title but we looked the part too.
As we walked Stacy and Brittany talked merrily. Like this was everyday.
Well it kinda is.
When we arrived at our destination I was filled with a dreaded sense of familiarity.
I couldn't wait to get out of the back room but that meant being on the stage, which was no better.
I started to take some deep breaths.
"Hey. You ok?" Miranda asked.
"Physically." I said.
"Look obviously this is something that you can't help but know how to do." She said. "The rest of us are amateurs. We're just here because we look good."
"But Miranda I just had kids and I'm supposed to be responsible. This is not the example I want to set for my kids. And Xavier won't want me anymore because he'll think I'm a whore." I said.
"You can't be sure of that. If he really loves you he won't care about your backstory." Miranda said. "When we get out of here you should definetley be honest with him."
"I don't want to lose him." I said.
"Well, if we don't get going you're gonna lose your kids and him." She said. "I gotta go. We're on separate kiosks."
I gave her a hug before Stacy and Brittany yanked us apart, sending us to our places.
The lights dimmed at my hand closed around the shiny silver pole and my stomach dropped.
I took one last deep breath before I blocked out everything in the room. I'm sixteen. In my old room, practicing. Doing better, like Felipe told me.
Men started filing into the room, seating themselves at different tables, eagerly looking up at me.
I looked around and caught Miranda's eye. She nodded and we were suddenly surrounded by bright flashing lights that signalled us to start as some guy's voice filled the space around us.
"Gentlemen let me introduce our newest princess who I'm sure you've all heard of by now." He crooned. "Ginger!"
A spotlight focused on me, already halfway up the pole.
"Let's see what she's got and please feel free to open up your wallets and make her feel warm."
