Gwendolyn *the next day*
"You walked out of the place and left your whole schedule." Evelyn said and I heard a car door slam.
"Yeah I know. So when do I start work?" I asked. I was doing my make-up at the kitchen counter.
There was a knock on the door and Chase didn't bark so it was a friend.
I opened the door and there stood Evelyn. "Today."
Shit.
Evelyn pushed past me and sat the carseat she was carrying on the couch. Amir immediatley sat down next to the carseat.
"You're so lucky I'm your best friend and not some basic bitch." Evelyn said and pushed me into the bathroom. "Now go shower and I'll pick out your outfit."
I took a quick shower, brushed my teeth and brushed my hair.
Evelyn came back into the room holding an outfit. "Put this on. We'll stop somewhere for breakfast."
"Go feed Chase." I said and closed the door again.
She had given me a red skirt suit with a white blouse to go under it.
I went back to my room and grabbed my pearl necklace and my red pumps.
I went to the living room and Evelyn was tapping her foot.
I put on my necklace as I opened the front door. I put on my shoes and grabbed my purse and Amir's hand.
Evelyn grabbed the carseat and we ran for her car.
Evelyn buckled up the baby and Amir as I got in the front seat.
We managed to drop her children off at the daycare, stop at Chipotle and still be at work on time.
We clocked in and she showed me to my office.
"Damn." I said.
The offices were never this lavish at Fisher and Finch.
There were windows. Lots of windows and a desk.
Then several people entered the room at once.
They brought in an empty wardrobe, flatscreen TV, Mini Fridge, swivel chair and two couches.
They dusted off the paintings and placed everything in such a way that nothing stood out. Everything matched.
A lady came and measured my waist and legs. They brought in pant suits and skirt suits in many different colors, all of them in my size.
There was a bathroom too. They brought in fresh soap and towels. What I loved most of all was the dog bed they laid right beside the door.
I sat my purse on the desk and looked in the mini fridge. Fully stocked with snacks.
Well I'm not retiring early.
Mr. Wells entered the office holding a pile of papers. Dark shades and dark suit per usual.
My thoughts went back to the painting of him in my studio. The painting after that was faceless. It was of him and all of his details. Except his eyes.
I felt myself blush realizing that I was weird for painting a random picture of a guy, let alone my boss.
He sat the papers on my desk. "The one on top is your work schedule, computer login and a map of the building. I need you to file the rest of them. Then we have a meeting at five o'clock."
I nodded and immediatley got to work. He stared at me for a second before leaving the room.
Now that I'd had a chance to see him up close I could now conclude that he was really attractive.
He has slightly curly, black hair and a little stubble on his jaw. He looked like he worked out. A lot.
I unlocked the computer and began filing the papers into different digital categories.
At around three o'clock I was almost done and Evelyn brought me portillo's. "You can't just live off of snacks."
I opened the bag and took a sip of the chocolate milkshake. "Your new name in my contacts is gonna be free food."
"And mine for you will be Fatass." She said.
"It's your fault." I said to her and she laughed as she left the office.
I finished my lunch by three forty-five and was back to the grind.
At four forty-seven Mr. Wells entered the office again. "Finished?"
"Nearly." I said. "Two more."
"Time efficiency. I like it." He said.
He moved away from the door to look out one of the huge windows near my desk.
As I finished with the last two files I noticed that his face was twisted into a scowl. He looked like he was contemplating something.
I wonder what color his eyes are...
I finished up with the files and stood up. "Ok I'm done."
He exited the office immediatley and I practically ran to keep pace.
"You think you could slow down?" I asked him. "We're not going to be late."
His pace slowed and he walked beside me. "How can you be so certain?"
I never thought he was the guy for casual conversation. In the short period of time I had known him. So maybe that's why this suprised me so much.
"It's five fifty something and the confrence room, according to the map, is on the next level." I said.
"I'm the host, I need to be the first one there."
His voice was deep and low as he said this. He looked around the hallway we we're walking down before settling his eyes on the floor.
"I know for a fact that nobody is ever really on time for these meetings, except maybe you, everybody is at least five minutes late." I explainded.
We boarded the elevator and he pushed a button.
He always kept his eyes, or more so his head, pointing down the entire ride, especially when the lurch of the elevator had almost made me fall.
He looked up as we entered the confrence room.
Surprise. Surprise. No one was there yet.
I poured some glasses of water and sat them in their places as he took his seat.
His head was up the entire time and I don't think he knew that I noticed him looking at me the entire time.
I took my seat beside him just as the first business representative entered the room
"Sorry I'm late." He said and stumbled to his seat.
I gestured towards him with my hand and looked to Mr. Wells.
He smirked in response. "Touché."
*****
It literally kills me how terrible my timing is. There is a possibility of another update before thanksgiving but I doubt it.
