Xavier

"Look at her. It hurts to be the reason behind her tears, doesn't it?" Marquis said.

"It hurts to see her cry." I admitted. "But I am not the reason why."

"You gave me no choice but to kill the little roaches. You wouldn't have stopped." Marquis said.

I didn't take my eyes off of her as I spoke. "There is no reason for her to cry. Our children are very much alive and perfectly safe.

She visibly relaxed at the news and wiped away her tears.

I looked at him now.

"Tell me something." He said slowly. "Did you love her? Katia, I mean."

"No. We hadn't known each other long enough for love." I said.

"So is it possible...that you love her?" He gestured toward the cage and her responding glare burned as hot as the stars.

"Yes. I do love her." I said and her face softened.

"Then you understand that one of you is not leaving here alive." Marquis said, kicking away my weapons. "You could have saved her."

"No. You've always been wrong about that." I said. "Have you paid them off yet?"

He spat at me.

"You and I both know that just because I was there does not mean it's my fault." I said. "You shouldn't have stolen from them."

"You've done your homework." Marquis said through tight lips.

He picked up one of my guns and pressed it against the back of my head. "You will die with that satisfactory."

I looked at her again. More tears slid down her face, leaving black trails in her mascara and red, poofy eyes.

She shook her head ever so slightly. Telling me not to fight.

I looked away. I have to finish this.

He has plagued my life long enough and I'm tired of it.

I filled my head with thoughts of her. From the moment we first met to now.

"I wanted the last thing you see to be the one you love most." Marquis muttered unlocking his safety.

I looked at her and mouthed 'I love you', counted to three, turned around and punched him in his face.

I watched in terror as Xavier pounced.

There was nothing graceful about it but you could tell that it was planned.

The two grown men tussled with each other for what seemed like an eternity.

I looked around my small encasement, noticing Miranda standing in the shadows.

She was hidden behind all of the rusty equipment, creeping closer and closer towards a control panel in the wall.
