"So, P'Kit," Yo said as he works on the chicken on his plate. "Did the hospital allow you to take your leave?""Yeah," Kit sighed as he chews on his food. "They just gave me a tough time with the paper works."
"But at least you are now free to join us on our escapades." Beam said.
Kit nodded to respond to his friend, his mouth is too preoccupied with his food.
"Will N'Ming join us on our trips?" Forth dropped the bomb again.
Kit halted, he wondered how can Forth always ask the questions straight to the point and kill the damn elephant in the room. He just roamed his eyes around his friends, as if trying to verify the reactions of the people around the table. He saw Pha just flicked his eyebrow, as if to signify that it's not an issue for him. Yo smiled from ear to ear to show his unequivocal approval to the idea. Beam just sighed, giving Kit a little unnerve, but he's fully aware that Beam is not as hostile as he portrays. That sigh is a sign of approval, merely.
"I would want to see his child again." Forth said, he clearly felt the tension wrapped in silence, so he tried to stir the conversation away, covering his tracks.
"Yeah," Yo sighed as he twirled his fork on his pasta. "I miss Ynan. How about you P'Beam?"
"The kid is not an issue, I love that child." Beam started. But Kit held his breath, he knows something else is coming. "It's his father."
"Aren't you over him yet, Ai'Beam?" Kit finally said after he released the air he held in his lungs.
"Kittinan," Beam looked at him again. "Are you defending him?"
"No!" Kit dropped his face to hide it, he himself was shocked that he's defending Ming. "Of course not."
"Ai'Kitty," Beam hissed. "Just tell us, okay? It will be better if you'll tell us if really wanted to get back with Ming or not so we'll know what to do."
"We're here Pee." Yo said with so much adoration. "We'll support you."
"What are you saying?" Kit hissed back at them. "'Get back with him' my ass." Then he snorted to show his contempt.
"Kit," Pha now joined the conversation. "We actually care about the past, we'll never forget. But what we care more about now is your happiness."
"I'm happy." Kit raised his walls still. "I'd always been happy."
"Kit," Forth now spoke, making all of them freeze, especially Kit. "You've been through a lot. A lot of suffering, a lot of pain. I wish you'll be happy this time."
A prick went through Kit's heart. That's what he wanted for himself as well. Who wouldn't want to be happy? And the pain, it always comes back whenever he remembers what happened. And that pain is so traumatic that he didn't want to feel it again. But here he is, committing the same stupid mistake. His friends know that it's a huge risk. But the thought that they are willing to take the risk for him to have that illusive happiness is so heart-warming. And painful too.
