Today is the day. I run to his house with the biggest grin on my face. When I get to his house I excitedly knock on the door. The door slightly opened when I knocked. Frowning slightly I open the door as I yell, "Luke are you here!". No reply, that's strange.

"Excuse me miss, are you Cassandra?", a middle aged lady asks. She is dressed far to fancy.

"Uhm yes", I reply confused.

"Oh honey," the lady looks down at me sadly, "We were expecting you. Whilst you were on holiday the family that lived here moved away. Before we moved in they told me a letter was sent your house." What. Is. Going. On.

"Oh um, okay," I reply before walking back home.

Luke is going to jump out from the bush outside my house telling me this is a prank. I went away for a month he wont just leave without saying anything, right?

When I get home mum and dad wait for me at the door, looking sadly down at me.

"Honey Im so sorry for your loss," my dad says as he gives me two letters. "Read this one first, and this one second."

"Uhm okay," I reply confused.

I run up to my room before opening the first letter.

Dear Cassandra,

This is Mr and Mrs Doyley. I am afraid to tell you that Luke has passed away. He made us promise to not tell you of his condition. Luke had cancer before you left. In the last month it has gotten significantly worse. I am so sorry for your loss. I know you loved him a lot.

We thought it would be better to move away as living in the house has become to hard for us. Best of luck Cass.

Mr and Mrs Doyley

I jolt up from my sleep and look at the time. 4am. I curl into a ball and start crying at the memory. I miss you Luke, love you I think as I drift off to sleep.
