Chapter 22

The weekend couldn't come fast enough. Before I knew it, it was Friday evening. Shawn told me that the 'get to know each other friend date' would be two days long. Apparently we are going on a road trip.

I told Derek that I will be staying at Jess' tonight and will probably be back home tomorrow evening.

I know I shouldn't be lying but if I told him I would be with a guy he would've locked me in my room for the rest of our lives.

I was told to only wear and pack comfortable clothes for the weekend. I've already packed my clothes and my Country Road bag is currently sitting by the door.

I hear a beep from in front of my house. Within seconds I get a second I get a text from Shawn saying 'Here.'

I look at myself in the mirror before grabbing my bag. I am wearing a pair of grey sweatpants with a loose black t-shirt. Im wearing plain gold bracelets, a necklace and anklet bracelet. For my shoes I am wearing my white adidas shoes. My hair is in a loose high ponytail.

I sling my bag over my shoulder and run downstairs. I quickly yell a goodbye to Sam since she's the only one home.

I walk down the driveway and see Shawn leaning against his car. When I see what he is wearing I laugh. "Twinsieees," I giggle. Shawn just responds with a chuckle. Shawn is wearing grey sweatpants, a black t-shirt matched with his black Nikes.

I climb in the car and throw my bag in the back seat.

"So where are we going?," I ask excitedly. I was expecting a cliché answer of 'it's a surprise' but instead I get "we're going camping."

"I love camping," I reply absentmindedly.

Shawn turns to me and smiles before pulling out the driveway, "That's great, so tell me more about yourself."

I think, "Mmhm I don't know what else there is to me. Im not very special."

"Gosh if only you knew," Shawn mutters.

"What?", I ask confused not sure if I heard him correctly.

"I asked if you were good with stew. To eat," Shawn says quickly.

"Yep sounds good. So how did you become friends with the lovebirds?", I ask.

"Oh gosh we've been friends forever, we actually met in kinder-" Shawn stops mid sentence and turns the radio up, "sorry I love this song."

I listen to the song and realise it is Gravity by John Mayer, one of my favourite artists.

"Oh my gosh I love this song too," I laugh.

Shawn starts singing and once again I am stunned.

"Holy fish sticks you are amazing!"

Shawn laughs, "Thanks, I really love singing."

I can see that. He starts singing along again. Forgetting about our conversation we carpool for the rest of the trip.
