Chapter 8

Patrick Stormhold ~~~~

"Fucking Aiden" I muttered under my breath as I watched Serenity lead him around the castle.

Grinding my teeth as she placed her hand on his arm as she laughed at something he said.

We arrived at the courtyard and my mother was standing at the other side with three girls

"Patrick! Darling I want to introduce you to these lovely ladies." My mother called as we walked over to her "Oh Aiden! I didn't know you'd arrived already," she smiled

"Yes my Queen, I would've spoken to you sooner, but I was captivated by this lovely lady's beauty." he lifted Serenity's hand and kissed the top of it causing her to blush and me to glare.

"Ah Serenity is very beautiful," my mother smiled "Don't you think Patrick?"

Serenity looked up at me and gave me a small smile as if telling me I didn't have to say anything

"Very," I said looking her in the eye

She blushed and looked down and then at the three girls I had forgotten were standing there.

"What are your names?" she asked

The girls told their names and ages

"Natalie," the one with brown hair said

The other two were two blondes though one had blue eyes and the other had brown

"I'm Odette." the one with blue eyes said

"Marie." the other blonde said

Aiden and I kissed each girls hand. I locked eyes with Odette and smiled watching as her pale white cheeks slowly turned pink.

She reminded me of snow.

I think I would like to keep her for a while longer.

The girls went off with a servant to their rooms and Serenity went back to the drawing rooms while my mother, Aiden and I discussed more about the arrangement of marriage.

"The way this is going to work is that you each get to pick 12 girls and over the course of a month you will send a girl home because she is not the one for you. However, if somehow both of you become infatuated with the same girl she will be sent home immediately. I will not let some girl ruin the treaties we have with our kingdoms. Now the third prince is going to arrive the day of the ball which is in 2 days. He is a prince of Alyreia so Patrick dear try to be nice." she rubbed my back and spoke to Aiden on what his parents expect of him.

Veronans didn't exactly like Alyreians. They were rumored to have worshipped a God named Poseidon and they would fall in love with Mermaids and marry them. I knew that Alyreian royalty had Mer blood mixed into their lineage. Veronans hunted Merpeople for centuries. To even fall in love with a Mermaid was against Veronan law, but to an Alyreian, Mermaids were considered special and if one fell in love with you, you would know joy and happiness for the rest of your life.

"So is he a half blood?" Aiden asked

"Yes." My mother said

"Whats a half blood?" i asked

"Half Mer half human. His mother was a mermaid and his father is a human."

"Was?"

"Yes his mother died many years ago. His father wants him to marry a human girl so she doesnt end up like his wife did."

"What happened to her?" Aiden pressed

"She was hunted," my mother sighed

"By whom?"

"By us."
