Chapter 26

Case's POV

They took her out then I hopped out. I walked in with Mr. Sackett. They wouldn't let us in yet. After 15 long minutes they took just me in because she said she wanted me. I walked in and she had some sort of breathing mask on and she was sitting up. She was hardly breathing. Just wheezing and hardly any of that. It was really bad. There were three nurses and a doctor in the room. They tried helping and doing all of this stuff that I didn't really understand what it was for. I was speechless in a way. I had no idea how to react. After what seemed like a life time the doctors and nurses said that her breathing got better and that the treatment was working. I was relieved that she was gonna be okay. She was finally allowed to lay down but she had to keep the breathing mask on. She waved me over and I laid down next to her. 

Case: I know I don't say it as often as I should but I do love you

For whatever reason there was a note pad and a pen. She took it and scribbled something on it then handed it to me. It said "I love you too". 

Case: Did you loose your voice?

She nodded her head and closed her eyes. I put my arm around her and we ended up falling asleep. When I woke up I saw my parents in the hallway talking to the doctor and Jacob and Mario were sitting in chairs talking. I looked over and Ari was still sleeping.

Case: Hey.....?

Jacob: Hey

Mario: Hi....?

It was an awkward moment but.....

Jacob: Is she okay?

Case: Yeah she's breathing normally now

Jacob: Good

Mario: Thank god

We all started talking quietly. About five minutes later I felt Ari move a little. I looked over and she started opening her eyes. She sat up and started taking her breathing mask off.

Case: No no no

I said really fast then pushed it back down the way it was. She grabbed the note pad and pen then wrote something. It said "But I don't need it".

Case: You don't know that

"I'm breathing fine though"

Case: I know you are but that's only right now. What if you were to take it off then couldn't breathe again

Mario: He's right

"Do I have to stay the night here?"

Case: I think so

Jacob: Do you feel better?

She nodded her head then wrote "I wanna go home"

Jacob: Even if you could I don't honestly think that would be the best idea

"Can you go get Dad?"

Case: Yeah one sec

I went in the hall and told my Dad that Ari wanted him. He looked happy because he knew that meant she was awake. Both my parents followed me in. 

"Can I PLEASE take the mask off?"

Mom: I don't know if that's a good idea....

Doctor: What's not a good idea?

He said stepping in the door while looking at his clipboard.

Mario: Her taking her mask off

Doctor: She'll be fine if she does

Ari quickly took it off. 

Jacob: You must really hate that thing

She nodded her head. 

Doctor: So you lost your voice I hear?

She nodded her head again. 

Doctor: Let me see....

He started to feel her throat with two fingers from each hand. 

Doctor: Yeah....Mind if we do a few tests? 

She shook her head

Doctor: Okay follow me

She did and they both left the room

Dad: Can you guys do me a favor?

We all excepted. 

Dad: Can you guys look over her. Like make sure when she gets back to school that she gets to all her classes fine. And come over after school?

Jacob: Of course

Mario: Whatever you need

Case: Yeah

Dad: Thank you.

Mario: No problem

A few minutes later Ari and the doctor came back.

Doctor: We ran two tests and from what it looks like she's not gonna be able to talk for a few days.

Case: Jeez

Ari nodded her head while sitting next to Jacob. She grabbed the notebook and pen.

"Am I gonna have to stay the night?"

Doctor: Yeah were gonna keep you for tonight just in case

She sighed and drew a sad face on the paper.

"When do I go home?"

Doctor: Probably the afternoon just so if we havze to run anymore tests we can

She rolled her eyes and the doctor left

Jacob's POV

"Can you please stay?"

She showed me the paper

Jacob: I don't know....

"Please? At least ask I don't wanna be here alone"

Jacob: I can ask but how come you don't wanna be here alone?

"First night staying in a hospital and I'm a little scared"

I pulled out my phine and texted my Mom. She told me she doesn't really like the idea but as long as the hospital doesn't care shell let it slide. I told Ari and she looked really happy. The doctor walked in.

Doctor: Was there anyone who was gonna stay with Arianna?

Case: He is

Case looked at me

Doctor: Alright

The doctor left. After a little bit everybody else decided to leave because it was getting late.I sat next to her and I sort of laughed to myself.

Jacob: What are we gonna do?

She shrugged then rested her head on my shoulder. She started writing again. 

"I wish I could talk"

Jacob: Believe me I do too

She smiled and one of the nurses walked in. 

Nurse: Hi, um... I heard that your staying over night and that your gonna have some company. So, I looked in a few places and found these. 

She sat some board games down on the chair. 

Jacob: Oh, thank you

Nurse: Yeah no problem. 

She left and Ari got up. She looked through. She turned around and mouthed "Which one?" 

Jacob: Which ever one you wanna play

She kept looking through and she pulled out UNO. She came back an sat down across from me. She set it up and we started playing then I laughed again. 

Jacob: I just realized that your supposed to shout UNO but you can't talk so how is this gonna work?

"I will just clap"

Jacob: Alright

We continued playing and I was winning. 

"I have and idea"

Jacob: What?
