School was average that day. It wasn't that bad for the first day of school. I had made two friends already. Three of you count Ava, but I can tell Thomas and Walker don't enjoy her company. They'll probably try to get rid of her soon or later. I also did, unfortunately, have a lot of homework since I was starting in the middle of the year. I always went home with my mom after school was over. Since she couldn't afford me a car and Mom was normally off work at two so she could pick me up. Which is good because the bus isn't my favorite way of transport. Once the bell rung, Thomas and Walker drove home in Thomas's car. But luckily Ava gets picked up by her grandpa so we got to stay with each other at car dismissal. We talked for a long time. Actually, it was mainly just her talking and me listening. She talked a lot about her and Walker. She said that Walker and her were dating for almost a year. He was really romantic at first. He bought her flowers and small gifts. Walker gave her a small kiss every time he had to go. They were perfect together. Until Thomas came to school. Apparently, he is kind of new too. He only moved her about six months ago. Thomas and Walker became friends quickly and then Walker stopped hanging out with Ava. He wouldn't kiss her, hug her, and always seemed to avoid him. And then one day Thomas told her that Walker was breaking up with her. Ava texted Walker a thousand times and he never answered. Except for one time when he said, "Please leave me alone. You really annoying." Which, honestly, I can't disagree with. Ava can be pretty annoying. She really never knows when to shut up. After that, Ava's grandpa came and she left me alone. My phone was already dead and I didn't have a book or a sketchbook. I had nothing to do. So I sat on a bench and waited. I waited for a long time but no one ever came. Eventually, I was the only one there. I glanced at the big clock on the school wall. 4:12. Mom had forgotten me. This isn't the first time it's happened of course. Her job stressed her out a lot and she would forget to come get me. It's fine though. I didn't live far away from the school. I decided to walk home.
As I walked through the concrete jungle I started thinking about life before. Dad was the one that picked me up. He even took me to school. I never had to use the bus back then. Dad would make me a really good breakfast too. It's true that sometimes he woke up with a bad hangover but he still made me breakfast. I felt my eyes water while thinking about him. Mom and him were so perfect together. It's sad. As I was wiping away the few tears I had, I realised that I had arrived at home. I could still recognise it even with my blurry vision from almost crying. It was a small house. Only one floor story with pale blue and white panelling. It was kind of a cute house but not as cute as the old beach house we used to live at. I saw Mom's car parked on the road and another car too. One that I'd never seen before. I used the key on my backpack to get in. "I'm home!" I announced my presence. "Finally. You're very slow," I heard a familiar voice that came from the kitchen. I tossed my bag onto the couch and walked into the kitchen cautiously. Thomas and Walker were sitting at our small dinner table. I had completely forgotten that they were coming over. At that time I hadn't even realised that I never told them my address. They just knew. I rolled my eyes but then gave a polite smile. "Where's my mom?" I asked. Walker pointed to the bathroom. I nodded. I joined them at the table. "I didn't think you'd get here so quickly." I sighed. Thomas smiled and glanced at Walker. "Well Walker just couldn't wait to see your cute face again!" He had a cheesy grin slapped across his face. I looked at Walker. We both turned red and I nervously laughed. Walker looked down at his hands and started to fidget. It was adorable. "I really like what you did with empty boxes. They really bring the whole place together," Thomas gestured to the many boxes Mom and I had been too lazy to throw away. I giggled again and then Thomas's hand grabbed mine. He just started to hold my hand. A guy I had just met today! Was holding my hand like we had known each other for years! What the hell!? I was too awkward and uncomfortable to say anything. I just assumed he would be able to pick up that I didn't like it. But he never did. He just kept holding my hand! Until my mom finally came out of the bathroom. Thomas turned around to see her; which meant he had to let go of my hand. "Oh (Name)! You're here. I thought I'd have to sit with these boys all day," Mom grinned. I nodded. She came up closer to me. "And sorry about not picking you up. Work was kind of hectic and I didn't have time," she said quietly to me. I nodded again. We all were quiet for at least four seconds. "Well are you going to introduce me?" Mom laughed awkwardly. I stood up and waved my hand for the boys to stand up as well. They did. "This is Walker Manson and Thomas... Um, sorry I don't know your last name." I pointed to Thomas. "That's unimportant," Thomas shrugged. Walker waved at my mom. She waved back. I started to walk to my room and assumed the guys would follow me. "Oh before you go! Just remember, no touching each other!" Mom decided to embarrass me before I had escaped. I groaned and shook my head. "Wouldn't dream of it Ms. (Last Name)! I can't speak for Walker though," Thomas joked and nudged Walker. Walker smiled a little and then said he wouldn't bother me either.
We walked into my room and I closed the door behind us. We started to play some games on my ps4 and talking about random shit. Like memes I guess. We played for at least an hour and a half. The games really made Walker opened up. He was making killer jokes and was surprisingly very competitive. I only had two remotes so Thomas would mostly just watch. He didn't really seem to care about playing the games. At one point, Thomas left to go to the bathroom. Walker and I had just started to play Just Dance. We choose a couple song. We were having fun, just dancing around and being goofballs. We were laughing at each other as we dance together. We grabbed each others' hands and did some cool twirls. But then Walker had to grab me and then dip me. He dipped me so far that I could feel the end of my hair just barely touching the ground. He was good at it but it suddenly got really weird when he brought me back up. We were really close. Like our noses were only a few inches apart from each other. One hand was handing mine and the other one was around my waist. We were frozen just staring at each other. We totally forgot about the game. I couldn't help but want to kiss him. Especially when I started to think about all the romantic things Ava had told me about him. But I couldn't since we had just met and that would be weird. Not that it wasn't already. I started to hold my breath because I could feel his on my face and I was nervous that my breath smelled like the ham sandwich I had for lunch. I just wondered if he felt the same. I really hoped so. My face was probably turning blue from holding my breath so long. Luckily, we heard Thomas open the door. We quickly separated and tried to hide our faces. My ears and cheeks burned with embarrassment. Guess we broke Mom's rule. Thomas looked confused at us at first but then started chuckling. "What happened to you guys!?" He slapped and held onto Walker's shoulder. We started to laugh awkwardly. Thomas looked at the tv. "Ooo! I love this song. Let me play," He started to dance to the song. Which relieved some of the tension. Eventually, we even jumped back into the game. We all just hung out again and we all ended up on the bed later. We were just talking this time instead of playing games. Thomas got up in the middle of one of our conversations and picked up the shell on my desk. "Hey what's this?" He examined it. He looked really happy. I panicked a little. "It's just a shell." I stood up. I walked over to where he was and tried to take it back. He noticed and then pulled it away. Thomas held it up to a light to look at it more. "Be careful. I don't want it broken," I said. Thomas nodded. He looked directly into my eyes and smirked. Almost evilly. And then he dropped it. It was if time had slowed down as I saw it fall. It flipped around in the air. Spinning and turning over and over again. It was about to hit the ground and most likely break. But Thomas, calmly and coolly, caught the shell just before it landed. He put it back on the desk. I sighed with relief. "For it being 'just a shell' it seems pretty important to you. Why's that?" Thomas started to poke it around on the desk. I grabbed his wrist and moved it away. "It's a reminder of my dad. I don't remember where I got it but I do know it came from where I used to live with my dad," I pushed the shell back into its normal place. Thomas shrugged and sat back with Walker on the bed.
After that, we just continued to play games and talk more. Mom even made us some dinner since they stayed so late. It was fun. I could imagine hanging out with these people forever. And I might actually end up doing that.
