I power-walked down the hallway, dodging around the clusters of people. I was rushing now, and I couldn't keep the slight hint of a smile off my face. I rounded a corner, side-stepping a couple who were heavily making out and finally caught sight of the exit.
Behind me, however, I heard my name being called. "Emmy, will you slow down."
I turned to see my best friend Lisa rush up beside me, completely out of breath. I hadn't realized I had been walking that fast.
I rolled my eyes and then started walking again, albeit at a slower pace. Lisa was now able to keep up with me and walked at my side.
"Tryouts are gonna start at 4 pm sharp. I don't want to be late."
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the worried look on Lisa's face. This was rare because the girl was always smiling.
"Look, Em, are you sure about this?"
I came to a halt now, even though we were only a few feet away from the door.
"Of course I'm sure. You know how much I want to do this. And I'm just as capable as everyone else." I crossed my arms over my chest.
She bit her lip now. "I know that. I just think maybe-"
I quickly cut her off. "As my best friend, aren't you supposed to be supportive?"
I saw her flinch at my words and lower her head slightly. "I am supportive. It's just that..." She paused, waited two beats and then continued. "It's just that not everyone is gonna be as supportive as me."
I snorted. "Of course other people aren't going to be supportive. But this is what I want."
She nodded slowly, but I could still tell she didn't understand. "I get that, but it's never really been our place-"
I cut her off again. "And where is our place? In the kitchen? Or is it popping out babies? Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I am not just as strong and skilled as many male."
She stayed silent now. There was no changing my mind.
I smiled at her now, dropping my arms to my sides. "Trust me, I am gonna go in and wow them. I'll show them just what a she-wolf can do."
She shook her head lightly and muttered. But I just shrugged it off and rushed outside. I walked out into the afternoon sun, blinded momentarily. After blinking a few times, I skipped down the stone steps of the school.
People gave my strange looks as I walked. It was rare for me to ever be this happy especially in school. I wasn't really known for my smile.
Climbing into my car, I waited for Lisa to eventually get in. I owned a navy convertible, which was perfect for these melting days.
I pulled my sunglasses out of my bag, slid them on and shot Lisa a huge smile. She rolled her eyes in return, but I ignored it. Pulling out of the school, I set off for the pack house.

I know this is a bit short, but I wasn't sure how to continue this on so it would fit with the next chapter. The next one is much longer.
