I peaked in the door to find Michelle finishing with Bailey's bandages. I smiled at the two girls, and then took a seat on the bed opposite. I was finally feeling all the problems of my blood loss, but at least I could sense my wolf again. My rapid healing would kick in soon.

Once Bailey had been cleaned up, Michelle turned to me, a worried look on her face. She reached for the top of my shirt. But I knew the wounds under it would be pretty bad.

I quickly mind-linked one of the she-wolves that looked after the orphaned children, Nancy, and asked her to come to the doctor's office. As she walked in, she shot me a concerned look, but I kept the smile on my face.

I knew the girls were watching me.

"Hey Nancy. Would you mind taking these two into the game room for a while? Just keep an eye on them until the Alpha returns?" My voice sounded strained.

Nancy smiled back, trying to hid her concern for me. "Of course. Come on girls, do you want to watch some TV?"

They both nodded and jumped off the bed. Bailey looked back at me before she left. "Thank you Emmy."

I nodded and beamed at her. "I'll see you later, okay?"

Once they were gone, I let my shoulders slump forward and let out a breath I didn't even know I had been holding.

"Jesus Emmy, I don't know how you did it. You have lost a lot of blood, and still you didn't show it in front of those girls." Michelle gently cut off my t shirt, leaving me in my sports bra. Not that I cared at that moment.

I tried to shrug, but it hurt too much. "I just did what I had to do. I couldn't risk Bailey being any more scared than she already was. God only knows how that little girls gonna be feeling now."

Michelle just shook her head. "These bite marks are very deep. I don't know which is luckier: that you didn't bleed to death; or that the wolf who did this didn't break your bone. Or rip your arm off." She was muttering away as she examined the wounds.

"Your wolf healing should have kicked in by now. What's the matter?"

I shook my head. "I don't know. When I was fighting the wolves, I couldn't shift or use the mind-link. There was something in the air." I trailed off.

"Well, I'm going to have to stitch you up, these marks are down to the muscles. This is incredible Emmy. Not only did you kill five wolves, in human form no less, but you then carried the child back with an injury this bad."

I didn't have an explanation.

"Ok, I'm gonna get you a numbing agent." She turned to her cupboards.

"Wait, doesn't that affect my wolf healing. It'll slow it down." I scrunched my eyebrows together, remembering this.

She raised her eyebrows. "Yes it will slow it. With it, your arm probably won't be healed for a few days. Without it, you should be healed by tomorrow. But these stitches are going to be painful. These are deep holes"

I nodded. "I can take it. I want my arm working as soon as possible."

In my head I was thinking of the training I would need to do with James, especially against multiple wolves. I didn't want a repeat of these injuries.

She pursed her lips. "If you insist." And so she got to work. There were a lot of stitches, and a lot of pain, as she sewed up the holes on either side of my shoulder. But I just gritted my teeth and ignored it.

She was about half way when the door swung open and the alpha stood there. His eyes ran over my shoulder and down to my leg. I saw concern in his eyes, but just shook my head.
