It took a few days for Lisa and the baby to come home. Because Hailey had been born a few weeks early, the doctors wanted to keep an eye on her.
So when it was time for them to come home from the hospital, I was jumping up and down. I couldn't sit still, wanting to see the baby. Damien was a lot calmer.
He was lying on the sofa, reading over a couple of files about the pack. Over the last few weeks, he had been determined to help his dad. This meant a lot of paperwork and phone calls. But I was proud of him.
I, on the other hand, had thrown myself back into training. I was fully healed, and way behind on my fighting skills. I had also been doing research into wolfsbane and antonine. I knew that if one group of rogues could get their hands on it, others could too. We needed to know as much as possible.
But right then, I wanted to see my goddaughter.
I heard the front door opening and I whipped my head round. I pouted as I saw it was just Ben. I smiled at him and he smiled back, but he looked nervous. It was his birthday today, which meant we were all waiting for him to announce his mate.
"What's up Ben?"
He sat down beside me and groaned. Damien didn't even look up. "Nothing. I just, it's been a long day."
I nodded slowly, but I was drumming my fingers on my knees. I was too full of energy.
"Wanna talk about it?"
He sighed, running a hand over his face. "Ok, so I was walking through town today and-"
He was cut off quickly as Calum came into the room. I felt Ben tense beside me as we both glanced over at him. Suddenly, the air was different. I looked between them as they stared at each other.
Slowly, Ben stood up and crept over to Calum. By now, I was full on bouncing in place. I shoved my hand over my mouth, trying to stop from screaming with joy.
When they reached each other, I could almost see the sparks flying between them as they embraced each other.
I grabbed a pillow, not able to contain my excitment and shoved my face into it. I felt both boys turning to look at me as I giggled uncontrollably.
"Emmy? You okay?"
I glanced up, beaming at them. "Yes! This is so amazing!"
They both blushed a little and I couldn't help but 'aww' at them.
"Whatever Emmy. We are going to go talk. We'll see you later."
I nodded and grinned like an idiot as they walked out of the room hand-in-hand. I turned to Damien who had missed the whole scene. I huffed and threw a pillow at him. His head snapped in my direction and he gave me a flat look.
"What was that for?"
I rolled my eyes. "I get you want to do more pack-related stuff, but you just missed one of your best friends finding his mate. You need to take a break before you exhaust yourself."
His eyes widened a little. "Ben? Who's his mate?"
I smiled. "Calum!"
Damien looked more than a little shocked. "Calum? Seriously?"
I narrowed my eyes. "Don't tell me you don't approve of gay mates. Because that is kind of a deal breaker."
He rolled his eyes at me and threw the same pillow back at me. "Of course I approve. It's all love in the end. But I just didn't know those guys were gay. I mean, Ben's been my best friend for years and I didn't know."
