Shae awoke to the hum of a car engine and the soft cooing of a teenage girl. His head was in her lap, and her hand was on his chest.
"Good morning, sleepy," she grinned. Shae, immediately on the defensive, attempted to sit up.
"Hey, hey!" she exclaimed quietly, "You need to lay down."
Shae didn't want to. He was in a vehicle with people he didn't know. They could very well be his captors in disguise. But his pain told him she was right. He laid back down, but began to feel anxious.
"Where's Cody?" he panicked, "Where's Cody!"
"He got away, he got away," she reassured him. Shae sighed, his body relaxing. He could find Cody.
"I'm Miranda," she smiled.
"Shae."
"Thank you for saving me."
"Um, no problem. I guess." She giggled at his awkwardness.
"So where are you from?"
"Long story."
"We've got time," she smiled, "It's still got two hours 'till we stop." He looked at her, contemplating whether or not to tell her. His aura could sense no malicious intentions, though Miranda's aura did bear some strange alterations. Things he'd seen in places he'd prefer not to think about.
So instead, he told her how he came here. How he came from a planet far away after being falsely accused by his half-sister. How he had come under a laboratory's hand and had seen unimaginable cruelty. How he had escaped with a friend and been wandering for a week when the restaraunt manager found them. Miranda listened intently, seemingly picking up every detail.
"So how long has it been since you've come down again?"
"Two years," he sighed solemnly.
"So you two have dated for a while, huh?"
"Yeah," Shae replied, choking back a sob, "Two years before I was banished."
"Oh, gosh..." Miranda's voice trailed off, "I'm sorry, it's none of my business. I shouldn't-"
"It's fine," Shae smiled, "Just a reminder of why I keep on living."
