Charles Nolman sat at his desk, trying to wrap his mind around what Shae had told him that night.
Somehow, an entire chain of laboratories had hidden right under his nose. They had been tampering, experimenting on their fellow man. Torturing them. Exploiting them. Killing them.
All the activity, of all those minds, all their pain, and he had not noticed.
His mission, he realized, included a whole level of depth he had not known was necessary. Not only did he shelter those who were naturally 'gifted,' he now had to shelter those being mass-manufactured. But how could he do it?
There was only one way: to end it.
Now, he could no longer rely on those he entrusted dangerous missions to. He had no idea what these laboratories were capable of.
But two people knew. Two people he was on very, very good terms with.
But he had known them for a week. How could he trust them?
He had to. He had no choice.
The question was how to use them.
