Shae quietly followed Cody and Dylan back to their dorm. He could hear Sarah scolding Ema as they neared the girls' room.
"This has gone too far, too fast. You've only known him a week!"
"Yeah, but..."
"But nothing. You have confused him enough already! You need to let him- Dylan, Cody, give us a moment, please." Dylan obliged, closing the door and leaning against it. Shae remained in the unlit corridor, so close he could almost touch her.
"Dylan," he prodded, "Do you... um, what was Ema doing earlier?"
"She was sitting in your lap. Why?"
"Um, the other day she kissed me-"
"What? She kissed you?"
"Uh, yeah." Dylan arched an eyebrow.
"Felt good, didn't it?"
"Yeah, but I thought that was reserved for couples who have, um-"
"Been together longer, yes," she finished, "That was way too much for less than a week." Shae took the opportunity, putting in his two cents.
"I agree with Dylan," he commented idly. Cody stared at him in awe before jumping into his arms.
"You're back!" he exclaimed, burying Shae's face into his shoulder, "Thank God!"
"Well, I'm not that easy to kill," Shae grinned, placing him on his feet, "You're looking much better. Less starved. And nice clothes, by the way." Shae turned to Dylan.
"Thanks for keeping an eye on him, Dylan," Shae smiled, extending his hand. She took it without hesitation.
"Hey, don't worry about it," Dylan beamed, "Sound's like Sarah's wrapping it up. Let me introduce you to my adoptive sisters."
