Ema sat in Cody's lap for their dorm's Friday movie night. Dylan and Sarah sat next to the pair, quite unsure of what to do.
"Um, Ema, there's plenty of space on the couch for-"
"I'm fine where I am, thank you," Ema grinned, adjusting herself in his lap. Cody clearly had no idea how to act or react to the development. In fact, he was still confused about their kiss the day before. It had felt good, but what did it really signify? What was he getting in to? He really wished Shae was around to give him guidance.
What had even happened to Shae? Had he escaped as Cody had? Why had he stopped? It must have been important, whatever it was. Cody did recall hearing a scream. Shae would have stopped to help. It was just his way.
Now why, Cody thought, hadn't he stopped? Why did he keep moving even though something was obviously wrong? Cody now realized his decision had led to him being separated from Shae, maybe forever. A tear welled in his eye, and he choked back a sob.
"I..." he began, shuffling from underneath Ema, "I need to be alone." He walked out of the dorm and ran to the park.
