The Oakmans arrived at their house. There was no sign of pursuit besides the constand bickering of Shae, which continued after they got inside.

"Do you have any guns?"

"No."

"Dang. Bladed weapons?"

"I've got a few knives in the kitchen."

"Frik. Large, blunt objects?"

"I have a baseball bat." Shae slammed a fist into the wall.

"Jeez!" he yelled, "Are you some kind of pacifist or something? You have too many nice things to not have a weapon!"

"Apparently, you have not lived in a gated community."

"Apparently," Shae replied, "You haven't been chased by weaponized monsters for two whole d*** years!" he exclaimed. He inhaled and exhailed deeply, returning to his calm and orderly manner.

"I'm sorry you had to see that," he sighed, "Go get those knives you were talking about. And, ladies, get yourself changed into another set of clothes. And an actual jacket, not those unhelpful 'fashionable' ones." The Oakmans scrambled about, doing as told. When the father, Robert, returned with the knives, Shae had completely changed his attire.

"How did you-"

"Two knives? That's it?"

"What are we even-"

"You wouldn't mind sacrificing a few things for your lives' sake, would you?" Shae interrupted, eyeing a china cabinet, "And you don't need to know how I did that. I'd prefer you didn't."

"Oh. Um, well, yeah, sure, whatever you can use." He grabbed every peice of china, turning all of it to black dust. Finally, he sacrificed the cabinet as well. From the dust he made three guns, the rest crawling up his sleeves.

Miranda and Sarah came down as soon as he had finished.

"Where'd the china go?" asked Sarah, "And how did you do that?"

"Focus," Shae told them, tossing each of the Oaklands a gun, "Do you know how to shoot?" They all shook their heads.

"It's quite simple, actually. Just point and pull the trigger. Got it?" All three nodded as a loud thump was heard, followed by a crash.

"Let the party begin!" Shae exclaimed, running after the noise. The noise of the battle was insanely loud. Almost as insane as the situation.

Suddenly, a large, lizard-man was thrown through the wall. Miranda opened fire, while the other two were too scared to fire. Through the hole came three more... things, all some animal-human hybrid.

"Shoot!" Shae and Miranda yelled together. In an instant, all three were dead on the floor. Just as quickly as the fight had begun, it was over. Sarah puked while Robert stood like stone in disbelief.

"Do you have another vehicle?" he asked the nearly paralized father.

"Yeah..." he swallowed, "Yeah, the van. It's out back."

"Go start it up," Shae told him. "Miranda, go with your dad and make sure no one snuck out back. Sarah, you come with me." They all nodded, Sarah following Shae on shaky legs.

They walked to the front door. The bodies and destruction churned her stomach once more.

"You alright?" he asked, opening three containers made of the black dust.

"No!" she exploded, beginning to cry, "Our house has been torn up, we're on the run from a freaky enemy, and we have no idea why! Of course we aren't fine!"

"I was more referring to your physical state. Not your state of mind."

"How are you so heartless?" she screamed at him as he threw the containers on the ground.

"I have merely learned to control my emotions after four years of being chased. I have shoved my personal and emotional manners aside to try to survive. I suggest you do the same." Sarah watched as the containers spilled what appeared to be blood.

"Who's blood?"

"Yours. At least, the duplicates of your blood."

"So we have an alibi?"

"Yes. The three of you were killed on site, but your bodies are not at the scene of the crime." He plucked one of the feathers behind his ears.

"I, on the other hand, escaped with minor injuries and am still at large."

"So... you're not coming with us?"

"I'm afraid I must leave you three. The longer I stay with anyone, the more harm comes to them-"

"We have no protection!"

"I have given you weaponry. That is enough."

"How is that enough when we don't even know who the enemy is?" Sarah sobbed, crying on his shoulder.

"Please..." she begged, "We need you."
