The Storm Passes

The darkness behind me laughs in scorn

As I lay beaten

As I lay torn

It had its way with me for now

Yet the storm ahead brought no hope for light in the days to come

I pick myself off the ground and quickly glance around

For the waves had already signaled more passing breaths

As bones wash up from battles lost

They were littered nearly everywhere

The storms putrid smell filled the air

And the silence of that deathly haze

Caused my heart to nearly beat from its cage

I prepared for the next fight along with the other warriors that survived the night

Nay they were not soldiers of any state

Merely survivors of an endless fight

That starts at the first light

That evil cloud above waited to take the few that stood against it

I had no wish to fall

But a man can't do it all

As the wind blew once again

Enough to knock a man's skull of his head

Icy rocks fall and pelt me till I can stand it no more

And I gaze around at the souls whose time had come

They were swept into the mighty waves clawing hand by the squall of death

That clawing hand so eager to take one more being from life's arms

As if that hand had never been fed for many a man I knew lost the battle and flew

To the waters edge to never breath again

I wanted no part in this battle that started by one mans last breath

For that is how the war never rests

This is how it never dies

For to live is to die

To win is to lose

I felt no life left in my bones

No strength in my heart

Except that fleeting light

The glimmer that kept me alive steadily grew in power

Until it left my soul and came into the world

It was a kind face like none I'd ever seen

One that offered freedom a word scarcely heard

He told me to trust Him to see all things become perfect once again

Again I had to think I knew nothing else but this cold realm

Where darkness heard your every thought

And death was a enemy that passed daily

I thought of leaving and joy sprung from my heart

I asked what I must do to leave this wretched place

He told me to leave behind my dark cape

The thing I was born with on my back

Had steadily grown longer as time passed

I had felt the need for freedom my whole life

Yet now with that chance at my door I had so many doubts

This man who stood before me held many a secrets untold

What if he lied or was just a sham my mind created

He sat down next to me and looked right through me

I felt his gaze rise through me giving me something I had lacked, hope

That long-lost treasure that mattered to me more than any man could know

I felt like a child again looking up with hope filling my eyes

I told Him "Take me where you need me."

I drifted from my prison that held death instead of bars

On every side, there was that dread filled haze

But I cared not for the light had me in its arms in full embrace

I would not leave my Saviors side for I saw no reason to

He shielded me from the squalls cries

And hugged me tight as the ice fell from the sky

He took me home through a miraculous glow

And its better than any man could know

So in case your storm won't pass

Remember that morning came before the night

Cherish a Savior that loves you

And give into His saving grace.

This is an older poem that I wrote and I was wondering if maybe you guys could help me with it. I was wondering if maybe there are any suggestions you guys could make, maybe to help this flow better. So don't be shy, I am always happy to hear your guy's ideas!
