"Niall, why couldn't you have held off the date?" I asked, angrily, "I would have had more time to get ready. You don't even know how hard it is to clean a whole house while taking care of two kids! This house has to look perfect!"
I was vacuuming the living room, while trying to clean up all the baby toys. Niall was playing with the twins, only causing a bigger mess. He wasn't the type of husband who would help with cleaning... okay, well; there aren't many husbands like that anyways.
"Sorry, but they had a certain time they could get off work, so they had to come today," Niall explained. I glanced at the clock. His parents were coming in an hour. I still had to vacuum all of the upstairs. Will I even have enough time?"
"Nicole, why are you so worried about this? You don't need to be perfect for my parents," Niall replied. I gave him a look, "Niall, last time your dad tried to break us up. I don't think they like me that much."
"No, he's over that now," Niall replied, still trying to talk over the vacuum. I sighed, "You don't know that..." I mumbled. Niall frowned, "What?" he yelled over the noise. I shook my head, "Never mind!" I yelled.
I finished vacuuming the living room and headed upstairs, so I could vacuum up there. I continued vacuuming and soon finished. I started tidying up the bedrooms, and prepared the guest bedroom.
I heard the doorbell ring, immediately interrupting me from my cleaning. I glanced at the clock to see that they were thirty minutes early. My eyes widened. No, they can't be here this early! I'm not even ready!
I guess I'll just have to go downstairs anyways... I walked down the stairs and into the entryway. I could see that Niall was opening up the door, and the twins were in their playpen in the living room. The door opened up and Niall's parents walked in.
Niall and his parents started talking all at once. They were hugging each other and happily chatting. I stood behind all of that, not fitting in. I never fitted in with Niall's family. I had always had family problems; it was almost weird for me to watch this.
They finished talking, and Niall's mom walked over to me, "Hello, love. I haven't seen either of you in a while. How are you doing?" she asked, smiling. I gave a small smile back, "Pretty good, thank you. Would you like to come in?" I asked. Everything felt so formal, not like how a family should be.
I led Niall's parents into the living room, where the twins were playing in their playpen. Niall's mom's eyes instantly lit up and she quickly walked over to their playpen. She lifted out Aedan, "I can't believe I'm a grandparent!" She squealed. Niall chuckled, "Calm down, Mum."
Niall's dad walked over, joining his wife. Niall decided to talk to his parents, "I think it's time to tell you the big news about Addy," Niall said. Both of his parents stopped chatting excitedly, and their attention turned towards Niall.
"Well, yesterday, Nicole and I went to a doctor's appointment for Addy, when we saw that there was something wrong with her. The doctor told us that Addy is deaf."
Niall's mom gasped, "She's deaf? So she can't hear? Will she be able to talk? Will you have to learn sign language? Will she have to?"
"Mom, calm down," Niall replied, "Nicole and I are going to learn sign language. Aedan will, too, when he is older. We're going to treat Addy like any other child. She will go to normal school, and will be like any other kid. I don't want her to be treated differently because she is deaf."
She nodded, "That is a good point."
The subject about Addy was talked about a little more. Niall explained everything that happened in the doctor's appointment. I sort of just stayed out of this conversation. Niall was having a good time talking with his parents, I shouldn't interrupt.
