Harry's POV
'C'mon then Harry, you've got to tell me something about you now!' Lola wines, playfully pushing my shoulder, I laugh.
'Okay okay, what would you like to know m'am' I joke as she rolls her eyes.
'Um, how about why you thought I was going to run as soon as I got in your house?' Damn it Lola. If someone had asked me to answer something personal like this then normally I would've probably flipped them off and kicked them out of my house, but this is Lola; and I feel alot for her, despite her annoying ass attitude and the fact she always feels she must win at our conversations.
'Um' I sigh. 'Okay, I don't usually bring girls back here because of the state of it, it's not that we don't have the money, because we do; it's just my step dad won't let us re-do it because he's got it in his head that we're going to be moving out to America for his work, and as i'm only 17 him and my mum are my legal guardians, so I have to aswell' I'm not sure if it was just me but I swear I saw her face go pale at this, I shrug it off though.
''And your mum wants to go?'
'No, but she doesn't have a backbone, she'll follow him across the other side of the world just to be with him'
'So you're just going to pack up and leave, you're not going to put up a fight?' she asks timidly.
'Damn it Lola no, most of the time i'm okay with leaving, it's not like I have anything here in cheshire for me, or England for that matter! It's only my dad who lives here'
'Do you see your dad alot?'
'Fuck, what is it with all these stupid questions' I shout, suddenly a knock comes from my locked bedroom door. 'shit' I mutter under my breath.
'Who're you talking to Harry?' Franks voice is muffled yet loud and angry through the door. I look over to Lola to see her eyes wide and hands slightly shaking.
'No one Frank, I'm on the phone'
'unlock the god-damn door now!' I gesture for Lola to get under the bed and she doesnt hesitate in doing so before I unlock the door. He pushes me out the way and looks around the room, obviously looking for Lola. He turns to face me with furrowed eyebrows. Although I tower over him and am not neccesarily afraid of him, he has a lot of power over me. For example where I live!
'Listen up lover boy, you know for a fact that soon enough we're going to be out of this shit hole forever, so don't you go falling undeniably in love with a girl who will soon be out your life forever. You're just going to make it harder for yourself, her, and for me.' If it was my mum that said those exact same words, i'm sure they would sound loving and calm from her mouth, but from Frank, it sounded almost like a threat. 'Because I will win, and I don't want to have to drag a screaming and kicking loved up kid across the world okay?' He asks. I nod. 'Okay?!' His voice grows louder when i don't reply.
'Okay.' I say. He nods at my aggreement and begins to heard for the door, but before leaving he turns to face me.
'If I ever find out that she takes a step into this house, or even sees you again, then we will move straight away; this time there will be no waiting for the right time as your mother likes to say' he says before leaving my room and slamming the door shut. I quickly lock it and then scurry over to the bed where Lola's hiding and help her out.
'Then I guess we're going to be hiding out at my house more often' She winks and my hands quickly place on her hips before I pull her towards me and kiss those pink lips. 'I should go' She talks into the kiss and I smile, pulling away.
'How about, we skip school tomorrow and I take you out, on a proper date this time. It's my dad's birthday and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to go, but if it's an excuse to spend time with you, then I will.' I kiss her nose and she nods quickly, smiling and wrapping her arms around my torso, hugging me. 'It's formal' I add and she giggles into the kiss she had just moved in on. I open my door, careful that Frank isn't near, and lead her outside into my car.
Her house is only a few roads down, on the same councel estateas mine in fact, and when we pull up at her house, she kisses me goodbye. 'See you tomorrow baby, i'll pick you up at 10' I smile.
'See you tomorrow Haz' I smile at her new found nickname for me, I quickly watch her walk up to the house and make sure she's inside safely. I pull out, away from her house and begin to drive home.
I can't even begin to explain my relief once I see that Frank's car is no longer sat in the driveway, just my mums. I climb out my landrover, which I must say; looks very out of place in such a trampy garden.
'Mum?' I shout, after getting in the house.
'In the kitchen!' Her soft voice replies, I walk in to see her with glasses perched on the tip of her nose and reading 'the perks of being a wallflower'. I chuckle to myself, taking a seat beside her.
'What ya doing mum?' I say, reading a bit of the book
"And she kissed my cheek and whispered so nobody could hear. "I love you" I knew that she meant it in a friend way, but I didn't care because it was the third time since my aunt Helen died that I heard it from anyone. The other two times were from my mom" And for some reason, I like this book, even though I would never let anyone know, and that I had only read about 3 sentences of it, but it resembled me, that paragraph. Apart from the aunt Helen part of course, because I don't have one. But never have I been told that I am loved, only by the woman sat next to me right now. But every mother loves their children, right? Wrong, because maybe if Lola's mum loved her then she wouldn't have left her own daughter with an abusive drunk.
'It's this book that a teenage girl in the cancer ward suggested' My mum works in the hospital, I know for a fact that she doesn't work in the cancer ward, she isn't a proper nurse either, she's a carer. She delivers food for the elderly and entertains the ones that don't have much hope of leaving the hospital. Although I do know that my mum spends her own lunch breaks in the cancer unit with the children, some ranging from toddlers to teens, but either way; she loves them.
'Oh, can I read it after you?' I ask. She takes her glasses off and looks at me, a small smile evident on her face; anyone would think she was shocked at my question! After a few seconds of staring at me, she nods slowly, breaking out into an even bigger smile. 'Hey mum, I think i'm going to go to dad's birthday tomorrow'. Her head shoots up at this, her eyes wide.
'Harry that's great!' She hugs me tightly. 'What made you change your mind considering last week you were so set on not going; you barely ever want to see him?'
'Well I was wondering if you think it'd be okay if I took someone with me?'
'Love, I don't think it's appropriate for you to take a friend to a family gathering'
'Mum, she's not just a friend' I murmur, slightly, if not very embarassed.
'A girl?! I have to meet her, she should come round for dinner tonight!' She claps her hands together, obviously excited.
'No no no, as much as I would love that; we can't do that. Frank forbid me to see her because it could mean it will be harder for us to move. So if he finds out that i've seen her again, then he said we'll move immediately' I sigh, her face drops and I feel for her because I've never had anything like this with a girl before, and I have certainly never told my mum about it!
'Then it's between me and you Harry, our little secret. Just please let me meet her when you pick her up tomorrow, then just drop me off at work on the way to your dads' She smiles, obviously very keen on meeting her.
I nod, 'okay'.
