Survivor Series [Part 1]
*Shawn's POV*
-09/11/1997-
"My hands are tied here, okay! Curse him for having creative control! He doesn't want to drop the God damn belt!" Vince raged as we-- Vince, Paul and myself-- had yet another session about how Bret was going to drop the championship belt. "The only thing I can think about is having this match end in disqualification," Vince said much quieter leaning back onto his chair.
"Look..." Paul then hesitantly piped up grabbing everyone's attention. "I know I'm not suppose to be talking here...maybe I'm even out of line here..." He spoke to which Vince shook his head edging on Paul to continue. "But, what kind of business is this? Who in the world says, I don't want to drop the belt? You-" Paul now stood pointing his index finger to Vince. "You helped him to get a better deal there and now he's leaving. That isn't right! That's bullshit!" Paul suddenly began to shout to which I flinched to thinking that Vince would shut him down, but to my suprise, Vince just sat there listening intently. "How in the world can you trust him?! This is the same guy, who while he was off and dropped the title to Shawn, went behind your back and negotiated a deal with WCW only to come back and renegotiate a twenty-year-way-out-of-bounds contract with you! He hasn't done good business since, and now he is leaving to get even more money by you giving them the impression that you want to keep him!"
Suddenly a fire was set in Vince's eyes after Paul ended his tyrant. It was as if this was something he'd been waiting to hear in forever.
He then leaned forward resting his elbows onto the desk and motioned for Paul to sit back down. "I've had this idea locked away in the back of my mind after Cornette and Bischoff's snarky comments the other day..." He trailed with slight hesitation leaving me and Paul to look at each other in wonder.
I then turned my attention back to Vince. "What is it?" I asked slowly not even knowing if I really wanted to know.
An evil smirk then appeared on Vince's face before replying darkly, "A double cross."
This can't be good...
"I don't know man..." I trailed rubbing the back of my neck after a moment of silence.
Vince's face softened knowingly as a frown was now placed upon. "Please. My hands are tied, Shawn."
I know for a fact that whatever Vince was planning wasn't going to be good.
How could it be?
It's a screwjob.
But Bret has also been a pain in the ass to deal with ever since I told him that I refused to lose to him in this match.
But honestly, how could he not want to give up the belt?
Because it's in his beloved Canada...
Bullshit!
Belts come and belts go. That's how it works and for someone who's been here over twenty years, I'm surprised he hasn't got that figured out yet.
And besides, the only reason for Vince wanting him to drop the belt tonight is because Bischoff was going to announce his signing on tomorrow's night Nitro and honestly how would it look for him to be going into the rival's company as our champion.
He has to be retarded.
But this can also mean chaos.
What will happen after?
"Shawn..." Paul then nodged my side. "It'll be fine," He stated as if sensing my uneasiness.
I took a huge breath and leaned forward matching Vince's position. "I'll do whatever you want," I exhaled. "We'll just take it off him. I'll just swerve him or whatever I have to do. You tell me what needs to get done. You and this company have put up with so much from me. My loyalty is here with you. I will do whatever you want."
"This is pretty serious. This has to be a last resort. I'll still try to talk to Bret but this may have to just be the only real option," Vince huffed running a tired hand down his face before shooting a stern look to Paul and myself. "This cannot be discussed with anyone. Pat can't know; nobody can't know about this but the three of us right now. Understood?"
Both Paul and I nodded our heads before we all stood up to leave the office.
