Chapter 10, Josh's POV:
I saw and heard everything Michelle and Ryan talked about. She likes him and he likes her. I wasn't sleeping, I wanted her to think that. After what my dad said earlier, about me liking her, he was right and she didn't acknowledge it at all. I tell her goodnight just to show her I was up. Yes, I'm jealous, I admit it. Who doesn't get jealous? She's just the girl I'm looking for. I know she won't believe me because I admit, I have never been in a relationship. Like a real one, not just about making out. That's what all these girls wanted, Josh Hutcherson: The actor, rich kid, and famous. Michelle never cared for all that stuff. She keeps it a secret that her brothers aren't her brothers and it makes me question if she would feel the same about being my best friend. Michelle is everything to me, she took my virginity that night and I won't regret it because I lost it to her, she can gladly keep it.
I fall asleep and in a few hours, I'm awake at 6:17 AM. Michelle is still in bed and I just want to leave this house but I'm sure she'll put up a fight because of Ryan. I decide to lay in bed for awhile and plan my way to leave. I'll leave a note saying I'm gone and let her decide how she wants to go home, with me or with Ryan. My parents are most likely pissed that we haven't called so I'll let them chew my ass instead of Michelle's. I put the note on the bed and sneak out of the room and lock the door, then sneak from the house then drive back home. To my own surprise, I don't have a hangover but I'm not complaining.
The moment I walk through the door, dad is getting ready for his Sunday golf club.
"Hey Josh, come here." He demands at me.
"Hey dad." I greet uncomfortably.
"Where were you guys? Where's Michelle?"
"We were invited to a party. Michelle stayed over."
"Is that how you got your lip cut?" He laughs.
"I fought with the kid who was hosting the party. It's not my fault, I get so mad easily nowadays."
"It's obvious that you love Michelle, you're living proof that the camera's lying when you say you don't have anyone you like."
"Is it that obvious?" I ask.
"Yes it is, baby." My mom walks in the kitchen. "But you both are in staying in the house today. No phones, computers, iPods, nothing. You two can figure out your differences on your own today."
"Really? Well I have to pick her up still."
"No, you don't. We will do that. She's getting her own ear full because she knows better, as you do too. You both are living under my roof this summer, my rules are the same and applied to everyone who sleeps here."
"Wait, so no working this summer?" I ask. I only ask because I haven't got a break in a really long time and I think my mom got the picture.
"Nope. You're in Kentucky for the summer, unless you wanna travel." She smiles.
"Thanks you guys. I needed this more than I thought."
"Go get some rest and get some ice on that lip." My mom tells me.
"Josh, did you get at least a few punches on the guy?" My dad asks.
"Yeah I did." I clarify and walk up to the room.
I sit on my bed and fall asleep again and wake up at 2. The house is empty so I walk downstairs to see Michelle on the couch, looking bored out of her mind.
"Hey." I greet walking into the kitchen.
I hear her feet running into the kitchen, "Why did you leave me there, Josh?" She asks as she jumps on my back.
"Just thought you would spend the morning with Ryan." I blurt.
"Well, sorry. What about Kara?" She asks with attitude.
"We're grounded, no one's coming over and why would you care?" I grab a water bottle out of the fridge and plop on the big love seat in the living room.
"Well what are we gonna do?" I ask. "We have no options to do anything, so let's talk, best friend." I say, sarcastically.
"Who pissed you off?" She scoffs at me.
"You did, Michelle. I know you don't believe me, but this is the only road we're gonna have. You're so upset with me that I did something for myself and you didn't."
"Do not turn this on me, Josh."
I am so tired of her blaming me for stuff she also did. I have to put her in place because I've been treating her like a baby.
I stand up above the seat she's seated in. "Do you even hear yourself? All you've been doing is blaming me and you haven't even looked at your own mistakes. You make me seem like the bad guy and I'm sick of it. When you said I never kept in contact with you was the worst. I know you got the post cards I sent, they're in your drawer. I tried calling but you shut me out, and now I'm not going to let you anymore. The phone works both ways, you could've tried calling me." Her face has my attention and seems to be taking it fine. "I'm not trying to make you feel guilty or mad at me, I'm just trying to make you see my side of the story as well."
"Well when you put it like that."
I back up the room and start throwing my hand gestures. "Nothing's changed, no one can take your place, Michelle. My family adores you, my fans will love you," I take a deep breath before I can conjure up what I'm going to say. "I love you, Michelle. I love the way you smile at every interesting thing you see, the way your hair falls in your face and you stroke it away, your laugh, how you act like everything will come out wrong but pray it'll be perfect. You try to perfect yourself for someone who doesn't even want you as much as you do to them. YOu change your walls like a maze yet still manage to put the color inside of my world. You make me wonder what I'm saying, I can't let you go. Somewhere between the lines we went wrong and it made us tumble. I loved you all my life yet you still can't see it, I've been in front of you all along."
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Is all she can ask. "Was this before or after the sex, Josh?"
"Does it really matter when? I said my whole life. I gave you everything and you didn't take it, the only thing you did take was my virginity." Her jaw drops but spurs from excitement and relief. "I know I play with a lot of girls because no one wants the real Josh Hutcherson, they just want the actor and you proved to me you wanted your best friend back. This is a way that I'm learning to breathe, I'm living again. I was just another famous kid who everyone wanted to be with just because who they got to be with me and I was going the wrong way without someone to help me. The only one I wanted was you." I plop on the love seat once more, breathless and relieved I released this.
"Josh, I had no idea. I'll wait a lifetime to find anyone better than you." She stands up and walks over to me, quickly, pulling me up. "Give me love. I want your love, I need your love. I love you too." Her lips collide with mine and it gets rough more than the last with each passing second. She pulls my shirt off and I yank hers off as well, revealing her only in her bra. "All I want is the taste that your lips allow." She whispers in my ear as the kisses get rough, which turn into moans and finishes in sex. She's all I want and more.
