Chapter 18, Michelle's POV

I opened my eyes to reveal a big white hospital room. I can hear people talking right outside the door, familiar voices I need to hear. I can't move my body, it's all numb. How long have I been here for me to feel like this? My voice is dry, lips cracked, I probably look like a zombie right now. I open my mouth to call for someone but nothing comes out. I gulp and open my mouth and sit straight up. I sat up too fast for my body and a piercing pain came from my lower right side, I screamed and it sound inhumane. I couldn't help but cry and scream.

People came rushing in the room with white coats. I kept holding on to my side and saw Austin holding back a yelling Tyler. I reached for him to get in my grasp but the nurse was pushing them out. I looked him in the eyes once then Josh was helping by pulling Tyler back. They were out before I can protest. I turned to the doctor and I saw him stick a needle into my side then the nurse quickly put back in my IV I ripped out of my arm when I guess I was sitting up and screaming bloody murder.

I was laid back and they handed me some water. I had about 5 cups of water while the doctor was checking my heart rate and blood pressure.

"Thank you." I handed back the nurse the empty cup and she took it out the room.

"Do you remember why you're in here?" The doctor asked, his eyes questioned into mine.

"Not really. All I remember was leaving Josh's house and I woke up here." I gulped and sighed thinking of why I left. "How long have I been here?" I prepared myself to hear about 2 days at the least.

"You've been here for a week and a half."

I bit my tongue and held back the urge to scream.

"How bad did I get hurt to stay here that long?"

"You were in a car accident. You were in a cab with a driver who had been drinking immensely that night. The car swerved into a tree on your side shortly after you entered. You wouldn't have made it if you weren't wearing your seatbelt." He sighed and checked in the folder with my name on it. "You didn't break anything, just a couple of bruises. Your right side is what I am concerned about." He put the folder back and sat back down on the seat to the left of me. "You might have to come back in two weeks to get surgery for your kidney. It's not looking good. The tree hit the car on your side, as I said, so it's showing something not normal. I believe we can help by taking out your kidney or with medicine to heal it up a bit on the inside rather than out."

I thanked God in my head and asked something once more. "Who stayed in the hospital room while I was here?"

He smiled and walked towards the door then turned back to me, "That young man, Josh Hutcherson. And when he left to shower, your two brothers stayed here like last night. You're very lucky, Miss. Thompson. To have survive this and people like them in your life."

He walked out and shut the door. I smiled to myself. Maybe this was to happen to bring us closer. Everything was falling apart before this. Maybe mom and dad are here too! I hope they are, that way I know they'll get back together. It happens, right? I hope so. I need my parents, both of them, together.

I lay back gently in bed and a knock came from the door. "Come in."

"Hey…" It was Austin. The person I needed to see.

"Hi." I whisper since my voice isn't completely back to normal.

"How are you feeling?" He looked at my revealed arms covered in bruises and scars.

"Fine. What did I miss and when did you get here?"

He sighed and began to talk. "I'm sorry."

"Why? It wasn't your-"

"It was, Michelle. I should've took you off the plane the moment I felt something bad was gonna happen. I should have taken better care of you. I didn't. I almost lost you." He held his head in his hands.

"Don't blame it on yourself, please." I sighed. "It was my choice to leave and I was going back home anyway."

"I don't care." He stated standing up. "I'm your older brother. We take care of our younger siblings and you're my only sister. Can you imagine what would've happened to me? Tyler? Josh?"

"I know."

"No, you don't know, Michelle. This isn't one of those things you say sorry, get happy, and move along with. You were in a fucking car accident! Everyone would've blamed it on me. I should've never let you go, dammit."

"Calm down, Austin. I don't want you thinking this. Please. You're hurting me more by blaming yourself than the accident could ever do."

I started tearing up but held my ground like always.

His face grew hard and impatient. "I'm not letting you see Josh anymore." He said bluntly, looking me straight in my eyes with no remorse.

"Why? Why are you saying this?"

"For your own damn good! We're leaving Kentucky!" Austin came closer and held back something I can tell has been eating him alive. "He was never good for you."

He left the room with a slam of the door behind him.

What am I supposed to do?
