Chapter 16, Josh's POV.
Why the fuck did I just do that? I let my girlfriend, best friend, life, love, everything I needed and more just walk out on me. I sided with my ex-girlfriend, a dumb mistake, and I didn't think I would ever say that to her and it rolled off my tongue as a lie.
I watched her leave and I couldn't stop her. I knew I had to let her blow some steam off before she'd lash out on me.
"Josh, what happened? Are you okay?" Victoria came running to my side but she was the last person I wanna see at this point.
"I'm fine, Victoria." A hint of annoyance in my tone. "Did you see Michelle?"
"I saw her leave with James, which is why I need to talk to you."
Great. "What?"
"I need you upstairs now." Before I could reply, she took me by the arm and dragged me upstairs. "Before you say anything, I wanted to let you know I heard everything. I heard what you said about me and I can agree that I missed you too." She took a step forward leading me to take a step back until I felt only a wall behind me. "But why did you tell her this and not me?"
She kissed me but I didn't feel anything. Just clammy lips against mine. It was nothing to me. Our relationship happened, yes, but now it's nothing. Just something in the past now and I want to keep it that way. I want Michelle. I need Michelle.
"I'm sorry." I gently pushed her off of me and left the room running to my car.
I drove as fast I could and under the fucking influence but I seriously don't care. I don't feel as if I had a few drinks and the road was empty besides me speeding on it. Luckily, I made it back home safely with no cops on my ass. I ran inside the home trying to quietly make it to my room until a yellow piece of paper caught my eye.
I read the note over and over, shocked that I hurt her this bad to make her leave. I cursed under my breath multiple times until my parents flicked the light on.
"Josh, what the hell is this?!" My mom scowled at me. They all stood behind the counter, still int their pajamas. Not half asleep but wide awake.
"I don't know, ma. She got mad at me tonight and left." I sighed and looked up to see Connor more upset than my parents. "I ran after her but couldn't make it."
"Why?" Connor asked, looking me dead in the eye. "She could've died because of you."
"But she didn't." I sternly replied. "Why are you so worried? She left to a hotel, I'm going to look for her." I grabbed my keys once again until my dad spoke up.
"Josh, Michelle was flown to a hospital." His voice nearly cracking.
"What? What happened?" I glanced at my mom's face and Connor's before turning my attention back to my dad.
"She went into a taxi cab and apparently the driver was drinking. They hit a tree and the farm house property owners called the ambulance."
"When can we see her? She's fine though, right? She always is. Can we see her?" My expression showed fear and desperation, hid behind strength and a chuckle trying to hide the fact that she might not be this time. All my mom could do was bit her tongue from crying and telling me something I know she's keeping from me.
"What are you hiding from me, mom?" She looked down, forcing me to stare at my dad and Connor. "What do you have to tell me?" I asked through gritted teeth.
Connor took a breath and lifted his head, staring straight at me with hate and sorrow. "The hospital called about 10 minutes before you came and said she's brain dead."
"No she's not. Don't lie to me, Connor." I faked a laugh, praying in my head that she's fine and sleeping upstairs.
"Josh, she's fucking hurt, okay?!" His voice rose up, causing my parents to lift their heads and scowl him yet he continued. "She's brain dead. She's almost dead. Austin and Tyler are on a flight because of this."
"Connor-"
"Shut up, Josh. Let me talk, I've been silent since we moved to Los Angeles, it's my turn. Why did you let her walk off? Was it because of Victoria? You could say so many rude things to her but she never left until you did first. We moved for your career and we all supported you. Michelle supported you. All she ever wanted was for you to be happy and you flaunted your life without her. Ya know, I talked to her since the day we moved. You might not have kept contact but I did. She used to ask me if you ever talked about her and I made fun that you didn't. She was hurt when you left and she felt that the only way to stay close to you was through me. She's not just some family friend you forget in a few years, she's the big sister I always wanted and you pissing her off is making me lose the only person I felt like I could talk to. She's not only your best friend, but she is mine's too and tonight, we could lose her. Thanks to one fucking mistake you did tonight."
"Connor, I'm sorry."
"Sorry won't save her this time."
He walked upstairs leaving me and my parents silent.
"He's right, Josh." My dad spoke up. "You really didn't know what she is to all of us, not just you, did you?"
"I didn't." i answered in a whisper.
"Go to her. Now. St. Lukes Hospital, 8976 Avenue." My mom ordered me.
I ran out the house and back into my car, speeding down the familiar road ahead of me, praying all the way there.
