Chapter 7, Josh's POV:

We're on the plane to Kentucky, Michelle and I. I think she needs this trip more than I do. She's sleeping next to me and we're gonna land in an hour. Her soft snores and lip twitches are the cutest things I've ever seen. I haven't slept so I gently lay my head on hers and fall asleep quite quickly.

About 45 minutes pass and the plane is about to land so I wake up Michelle. There's only one thing on my mind on this trip, it's to keep her. She's the girl I've been in love with growing up. I knew her practically all my life because we both grew up in the same neighborhood. But there was a time I knew wasn't normal to start taking longer glances at your best friend. One day, I stared at her while a friend of mine at the time threw his baseball glove at me to go to the park with him. I went but before I did, her pink dress and curly long hair was neat and clean as if she was going out. When I came back about two hours later, she's screaming for her dad to stop doing something. I knew something wasn't right so I walked over and knocked on the door but it was wide. I stopped in my tracks when I saw her father lay his hand on her mother. Two older boys ran down the stairs as another takes her into the kitchen. Her face was red and dripping with tears. I realized what happened and called for my dad as loud as I can an they came running out. I yelled that she was getting hurt and my dad quickly threw her dad onto the ground as my mom comforted hers.

I'm caught from my memory as Michelle yawns and gets ready for the landing.

"Hey." I embrace her in a hug as she stretches but she seems to question it and slowly returns it.

"What was that for?" She asks still smiling sleepily.

"I know you needed it as much as I did."

The flight attendant notifies us it's ok to get off and we do so as we get our little bags then walk off the leap.

"Home." Michelle simply states.

I look to her and give a small smile while laughing a bit. "Home."

As we get our luggage, I notice people start noticing me and now Michelle since Austin keeps blabbing about his little sister's graduation in interviews. The more I worry about Michelle's safety, these people can get crazy.

I see my mom and we quickly walk to her then suddenly, a bunch of people are calling my name as Michelle, my mom and myself run towards the car and security catches on. We safely drive away but news is out about me being home. I don't mind but being home is personal and now with Michelle, I just want to be with her like kids again.

When we get home, the bigger surprise was the fact my ex-girlfriend was back home. Kara. The fake extensions, fake tan, acrylic nails, and the one who almost fought Michelle when were 14.

"Hey Michelle." My mom greets once we're settled in.

"HI Michelle!" She laughs and gives her hug since she didn't have the chance to.

"How are you, honey?" My mom gives her a glass of water and they sit down in the livingroom but I skip out and climb up to my room.

"Hey Joshy!" The annoying squirrel voice comes from Kara as I freak from being scared.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I ask bluntly and upset.

"You're not happy to see me, are you?" She puts her puppy dog face and tried to come in for a hug.

"Sorry, Kara. But why are you in my room still?"

"I missed you, silly willy. I'll be downstairs with your mom, see you later pumpkin." Michelle probably doesn't know she's here but how am I going to keep them two separate?"

"Wait! Kara, why don't you sit? Let's talk." I ask, stalling her.

"Aw, I knew you missed me." She pats my knee and sits herself down and the moment gets even more awkward then I expected.

"Um.. well-" I was cut off when she just grabbed me and kissed me right when the door opened. As I pulled away, Michelle stood at the doorway, blank and empty before she blinked and walked out quickly.

"Dammit, Kara. Leave now please." I order as she walks up and gets out.

I take a minute to collect my feelings and plan what to say to Michelle.

I catch my mom in the living room and quickly ask her, "Hey mom, have you seen Michelle?"

"She said she'll be back but I suggest you go after her." She tells me and I quickly run out of the house and make my way to the second place she could've gone: the playground.
