Hello everyone. There is going to be a lot explained in this chapter so pay attention! Enjoy!

Dan’s P.O.V

It’s weird how your life can change so fast. I was having breakfast with my little sister, talking about school, this morning. And now I’m going to be trained as a mage.

I was going to have combat lessons of Julie and Kaya was going to help me with all the spells. It was going to be hard. My first lesson was going to be with Kaya.

‘Are you ready?’ she asked. ‘Yes!’ I said determined. ‘Follow me. I’ve got a lot of to explain and show you.’ I nodded and followed her. We entered a large room with show cases and, what looked like, a fighting matt. ‘Before we start, you have to decide what kind of weapons you want use.’ Kaya said as she walked past a row of showcases that were filled with swords, guns, bow and arrows, spears, knives and bombs. ‘You can pick out two. If you become more skilled, you can pick out the third one.’ I realized that she had three kinds of weapons. ‘You must be really skilled then, since you have three weapons.’

She looked at her feet. ‘I’m not the best mage here. There are way more mages that are highly skilled.’ ‘There is something I wonder.’ She looked with her brown eyes at me. ‘What do you wonder?’ ‘I’ve only seen one kind of weapon on Julie. Isn’t she highly skilled? Because from the things I’ve seen, I’m kind of scared to get near her.’

Kaya started to laugh. ‘She is one of the highly skilled mages here. I think she is in the top 5. She also has bombs and bow and arrows, but she is professional in swordsmanship. She has been training here, since she was 8.’ I was surprised. ‘She was 8 years old when she joined the Blood Mages? How?’ Kaya’s eyes suddenly turned sad. ‘I think that is for Julie to tell you, not me.’

‘How did you join the Blood Mages?’ I said to change the subject. ‘I had a… an ‘accident’ when I was 10 years old,’ she started her story. ‘My insides were a mess, but after a long time, they managed to place everything correctly again. They told me that I was fine again, but they had found something weird.’ ‘Your blood type?’ I asked. Kaya nodded. ‘Since I lived on the streets, they didn’t know anything about me. They wanted to keep me for research and that’s when Joe came into my hospital room. He had said that he was my brother. He winked at me, as a sign to play along. He erased the memories of the doctors and nurses that knew about my blood type and he got me out of there.’

‘How did you get in the hospital?’ Kaya took a deep breath and then looked up at me. ‘There were these people that took care of me, most of the time. Apparently they were in a gang. They wanted me to pay everything back that they had bought for me. I told them that I couldn’t do that and they beat me up pretty badly for that.’ She said as she laid a hand on the place where her ribs were.

‘I was stabbed two times in my ribs and they had kicked and punched thousands upon thousands of times in the stomach. After they were done with me, they threw me on the streets again. An elder couple found me and they had called the hospital.’ She told me.

‘What happened to your family?’ I asked carefully. ‘My mother died in a car crash and my father disappeared right after that. My brother had run away a long, long time ago.’ She told me with hurt written all over her face. ‘Why did your brother run away?’ Her eyes turned even sadder. ‘He and my father never went along. He had run away, because he was sick of it. I don’t know where he is. I don’t even know if he’s alive.’

I looked at her. Her brown hair was hanging in front of her eyes. She really had horrible past.

‘It sounds rough. You must have hated to live on the streets?’ I asked her. Kaya closed her eyes. ‘I used to hate myself and everyone else,’ she said. She opened her eyes and started to smile. ‘But ever since I joined the Blood Mages, my whole past was worth it. It’s good to be alive.’

‘But enough talking! Pick out two weapons!’ She suddenly exclaimed what caused me to jump. ‘Yes, ma’am!’ I walked past the showcases. ‘I’ll go with the swords and the guns.’

Kaya walked towards the showcase with the swords and opened a drawer underneath it. There were hundreds of bracelets. ‘You only get three bracelets.’ I widened my eyes. ‘Only three?’ ‘You don’t get those bracelets that easily. You’ve just started.’ She grabbed three bracelets. She held all three of them up in front of my face. ‘The first one is a wooden sword,’ she told me as she held up a brown colored bracelet with the shape of a plain sword.

‘This one is an iron sword,’ she said as she held up a silver bracelet, just like the one Julie has.

‘And this one is made of zinc. It’s called the Zinc Snake ’ she finished as she held up a silver bracelet. There was green snake that was wrapped around the grip.

‘For the guns, you can choose between bracelets and rings. What do you want?’ Kaya asked. ‘I think rings are easier to carry.’ I said. She grabbed two rings.

‘This one is a holy iron gun,’ she said as she held up and shiny, iron ring with little signs on it. ‘And this one is a blue dragon gun.’ She held up a dark, blue ring with a dragon on it that spewed fire over the entire ring. It felt warm

‘I’ll teach you the enchantment to summon them.’ She walked towards the fighting matt. ‘You hold up the bracelet or ring in the air.’ She lifted her hand in the air. ‘You always say: “I ask you to awaken” and then you say your weapon and after that its name.’ She explained. I nodded.

‘Now you try it with your wooden sword. You have to say Sword of Wood, Ligna. Understood?’ ‘Yes!’ I said as I took position. ‘I ask you to awaken, Sword of Wood, Ligna!’ I enchanted and a brown light appeared.

After the light had faded away, I saw that I was holding a wooden sword. ‘Good job, you completed your first enchantment.’ I swung Ligna, with my right hand, around. ‘Sweet, so I can use these forever?’

Kaya’s face turned serious. ‘Just because their magical swords, doesn’t mean they can’t break.’ She said. I realized that I had thought childish about it. ‘Yeah, you’re right.’ I admitted.

‘You can use a sword only for a certain amount of time. The swords are connected with your body. If you get knocked out, the sword you have summoned gets cracks on it. If your sword breaks,’ she paused for a moment. ‘You’ll die.’

My eyes grew wide. ‘You’ll have to be careful and provident with them. You have to consider them as humans.’ She explained. ‘If you want, I can ask Ayden to help you with tactics and such.’

I raised an eyebrow. ‘Who is Ayden?’ ‘That was the boy that came to tell you that Joe wanted to talk to you. He is also a V- mage. He can learn you a lot about tactics. It will help you in combat fights.’ She told me. ‘Oh, and he is probably one of the few people that will train your little sister.’ She added.

‘Thanks!’ I said as I looked at her. She was smiling brightly at me. ‘No problem. It’s great to help you.’
