Chapter 6; The Dark Hounds

Kaya’s P.O.V

‘What did they do?’ I asked impatiently. ‘We received information that they have captured a few scientists.’ ‘Who are the Dark Hounds?’ Dan asked. ‘The Dark Hounds is an evil organization that was responsible for an outbreak of the monsters a few years ago.’ Joe told Dan.

‘We managed to slay most of the monsters, but the ones we didn’t catch, disappeared. We think that the Dark Hounds have captured them and used them to assassinate mages from organizations like us.’ Julie added.

‘But what do they want with the scientists? It doesn't make any sense.’ I asked, crossing my arms in front of my chest. ‘I don’t know, but I got a bad feeling about this.’ Joe said. ‘That is why I want you four to find out why those scientists are captured and I want you to free them. You’ll go tomorrow.’

‘Where do we have to go? We don’t know where the Dark Hounds’ hideout is.’ Nanami asked. ‘There is a house in the woods, three hours away from here. Ayden and his team saw a few guys going in there. I want you to go there and get more information.’ Joe told us.

Julie slammed her fist in her palm and cracked her knuckles. There was fire of excitement in her eyes. ‘Finally some real action!’ She exclaimed fired up.

‘Nanami, I want you to train Dan now. He can use it for this mission.’ Joe ordered. ‘Right away!’ She said as she grabbed Dan’s sleeve and pulled him out of the room. Julie and I were about to leave the room too, when Joe stopped me. ‘Kaya, I want to talk to you about something.’ I looked at Julie and nodded my head as a sign that she could go by herself. She nodded her head slightly and left the room.

‘What is it?’ I asked curious. ‘It’s about the favor you asked us.’ He said. ‘We might have some information about your brother.’

Dan’s P.O.V

‘What kind of guns do you have?’ Nanami asked. ‘I got a holy iron gun one and a blue dragon gun.’ ‘Okay, summon your holy iron gun.’ She ordered. ‘Yes ma’am!’ I said and I grabbed my ring and lifted it up in the air. ‘I ask you to awaken, Gun of Holy Iron, Sancta Ferro!’ The light disappeared and I held a light colored gun in my hand.

‘What did Kaya taught you already?’ she asked. ‘She only taught me how to aim and shoot not-moving things.’ Nanami nodded and said, ‘Show me.’

She set up a target in the form of a human body. I pulled Ferro in front of me and held my free hand underneath the magazine to prevent it from moving. I closed one eye and aimed. I laid my finger on the trigger and I held my breath. I waited for a moment and pulled it.

The bullet flew out of the barrel, right through the place where human’s heart was supposed to be. ‘Nice work, kiddo. How about we do it with moving targets?’ She said.

I dropped on myself on my knees. I was out of breath. Nanami had set up one hell of a training. I had to try to shoot her with those shadow bullets she used earlier, but she was way too fast. She dodged every bullet perfectly.

‘Good job, kiddo. You’re not bad for a starter.’ Nanami said amazed. ‘Thanks, you are way too good for a professional.’ She laughed. ‘Training is over. I think no training tomorrow. You’re going to need your energy.’ She said as she patted me on my shoulder and she walked away.

I walked towards the room where my sister was having training with Reina, a 14-year-old V- mage. She was a master in body control. Jodie told me that she was taken away from her parents by the government for research. She was in a horrible condition, because of the poisoned substances that were injected in her body. She was just a guinea pig for them. After two years, Reina and several other children of the age from 10 to 15 were saved by Nanami and Joe and were now trained V- mages.

I quietly walked into the room and watched as Reina explained Jodie about use body control on a mouse. ‘But doesn’t it hurt?’ Jodie asked worried. ‘There are two spells for body control. One that the person you control doesn’t feel and one that is painful for the person you control, but that one is really dangerous,’ Reina explained. 'Because you could hurt yourself.' Jodie gasped.

'How can that happen?' Jodie asked. 'Because, just like Nanami's Shadow gun, you can only use it if you have dark magic in your veins or you professionalize your technics. It's really hard and it can take a year or two.' She said with a sad look in her eyes.

'I still can't do it, but I won't give up!' She said as she clenched her fists. 'I won't give up until I can do it!' She exclaimed determined as she raised her fists in the air.

Jodie took a step forward. 'Teach me everything you can. We will train for the second body control together.' She said determined.

‘Watch and learn!’ Reina said. She held her arms in front of her, the palms of her hands pointing at… me?! ‘Control Corpus!’ Suddenly, I heard a voice in my head say, ‘Grab your sword.’ I grabbed my wooden sword, which I still had with me. ‘Hit your foot!’ I raised my sword and hit with the end of Ligna on my own foot. I groaned out of pain.

I heard Reina exclaim, ‘Revertere Corpus!’ and I felt how I got control of my body again. Reina started to laugh. ‘Very funny! Teach Jodie something that she can’t use to injure me.’ I said annoyed. ‘Jodie, your brother is grumpy as always.’ Jodie chuckled. ‘Maybe you shouldn’t attack him all the time.’ She said laughing.

I smiled. My sister hasn’t laughed like that in a while. ‘Show me what you can.’ I said proudly. ‘Okay!’ She said and she stood ready. She raised her hands in front of her and pointed her palms towards the mouse. ‘Control Corpus!’ she enchanted. The mouse tensed up, but relaxed right away.

The mouse ran off the table towards me. It sniffed at my shoes and then started to climb my legs. The mouse made his way over my back and stopped on my shoulder. I petted its tiny head. ‘Revertere Corpus!’ Jodie said and the mouse got control over its body again. I picked it up from my shoulder and held it in my hands as I stroke over its back.

‘I still have to learn to control the eyes, so that I can see through them.’ ‘Maybe you can use it when I go on a mission and see what happens.’ I said suggest as I place the mouse back in its cage. ‘If Joe is okay with it.’ She said with a bright smile. I placed my hand on her head. ‘I’ll be going now. Have to get ready for tomorrow. Do your best. I’ll see you soon.’ I said and I walked away.

‘I didn’t know you were such a sweet brother type.’ The voice made me jump. I turn around and I saw that Julie was leaning against the wall. ‘Can’t you just say hello?’ I said sighing as I walked further.

‘How was training?’ Julie asked as she started to walk next to me. ‘Yeah great. Nanami is a great teacher.’ ‘About Nanami,’ she said. ‘I want to warn you.’ I raised an eyebrow. ‘She can go crazy.’ She said seriously. ‘What do you mean?’ ‘You’ll see it tomorrow. Just,’ she stopped. ‘Be careful.’ She finished, with a tone of irritation in her voice, and she ran away. ‘What the hell was that about?’ I mumbled to myself as I made my way to my room.
