Chapter 18; Saving people

Hi everyone. I'm so sorry for the long updates. I have my holiday and I'll leave in a week. I'll try to upload a lot of chapters before I go to Croatia and Slovenia! Anyways, vote and comment if you like. Sharing is appreciated.

‘How?’ Nanami asked worried. ‘Ayden says that he had cut the ropes and ran away.’ I said, repeating what Ayden had told me. ‘In our direction!’ I said panicked.

‘He isn’t coming for us.’ Nanami said with hidden anger in her voice. ‘What?’ I asked confused. ‘He is going towards those scientists. He is going to start that magic stealing thing!’ My eyes grew wide.

‘We are going to fight our way through it.’ Nanami said as she started to check her ammo and place her silencer on the barrel of the gun. ‘If we keep sneaking around, we’ll be too late. Just knock them out and ran, got it?’ I nodded and started to get myself. 

I looked at my sword. There were a few cracks in it. It should be fine. When we are going to face Darren, I just have to change swords.

‘Are you ready?’ Nanami said as she put in the magazine of her gun with her palm. ‘Totally.’ I said as I tightened my grip. ‘Let’s go!’ she said and we both jumped up.

The two idiots still didn’t noticed us. Nanami replaced her gun for her knuckle knife. We walked normally towards them and stabbed both of them in the neck, letting them drop to the ground. ‘Idiots.’ I mumbled and I started to run through the corridors, followed by Nanami.

After a long time of knocking and torturing Dark Hounds members, we finally arrived at the place where Ayden told us to go to. ‘Ayden, you are hunderd procent sure that this is where those scientists are?’ I asked, worried that he might be wrong. ‘Don’t question me. I’m absolutely sure that this is where you can find the scientists.’ Ayden said, sounding a little bit pissed off. ‘Okay, I’m sorry.’ I said.

I turned to the door and grabbed the doorknob. I wanted to open the door, but I couldn’t. I was frozen in my place. ‘What are you hesitating about? Open the damn door!’ Nanami said annoyed. I ignored her. Was I this afraid for Darren?

‘Okay, enough of this!’ Nanami exclaimed and I felt how her hand made contact with my cheek. I placed my hand on cheek and felt how it burned. ‘What the hell was that good for?’ I exclaimed pissed off. ‘Keep your damn head in the game. There is no fucking time to be afraid. There are lives on the line here!’ Nanami exclaimed furiously back.

I looked down at my feet. I hate to admit it, but she’s right. I can’t be afraid now. We have to save those scientists. ‘Thank you, Nanami.’ I said awkwardly and embarrassed. I turned my gaze to the door. I took a breath and opened the door.

We ran into the room to meet nothing but darkness. I heard the sounds of groaning and chains. ‘Wait a minute.’ Nanami said and she reachs for her pocket. She got two lighters out of it and threw one towards me. I nearly catched it and I started walk to the back of the large room.

I bumped my feet against something hard. Since it was on the ground, there didn’t fell any light on it from the lighter. I started to kick it and I heard the sound of groaning again. I kneeled to the thing to take a look at it. As the lighter got closer, I started to see a silhouette. ‘A toe?’ I said confused as I raised an eyebrow. I gasped and my eyes widened. I inched closer to the wall to meet a face of a man around the age of 45.

‘Nanami, we are at the right place!’ I exclaimed and started to look for a way to get the scientist out of this place. ‘W-who are you?’ The man groaned as I was pacing around in the room to see more scientists. ‘My name is Julie and the one over there is Nanami. We’re here to get you out of this Hell.’ I said, remembering the words that Joe said when he saved me. 

I smiled a faint smile and raised my sword. The man eye’s turned wide and chuckled again. ‘Relax, I’m not going to hurt you.’ I said and swung my sword downwards against the chains that held the man’s feet together. I right away did the same with the chains that had tied his hands together.

After a while of breaking chains, we managed to free all those six scientists. Again, why was it so easy. Someone must have heard it. ‘Alright, everyone. Follow me. We’ll get you out of here.’ Nanami exclaimed and she started to run through the corridors. ‘Let’s go. Let’s go.’ I said, causing the scientists to ran after Nanami.

‘Ayden, we got the scientists. Get everyone ready to help us out.’ Right after I said those words, 20 Dark Hounds members came running towards us. ‘Fuck!’ Nanami exclaimed. 

‘God save us from this place.’ A latina woman prayed. ‘We’ll get you out of here!’ I said determined as I slammed my hand against my palm and walked next to Nanami. ‘Do you know what you are doing? These people are dangerous’ An older man said. ‘Mister, you’re looking at two top fighters of our organization. This many people is nothing compared what we usually fight. We had catch and slay the monsters in the monsters break-out a few years ago. We can handle it.’ Nanami said seriously as she grabbed her knives.

I grabbed Nanami’s arm. ‘You are not going to act psychopathic in front of these people.’ I hissed at her, inaudible for the scientists. ‘Now you have to stop acting my mother and just get yourself ready to fight!’ She said as she pulled her arm away. ‘I’m going to act like your mother, because you’ll traumatize these people.’ I said. She started to piss me off. She doesn’t give a crap about other people.

‘Listen to me, you bitch. Like I’ve told Joe; I’ll do it my way and my way only! This way work for me and I won’t fucking change it. You got it?’ She hissed at me as she looked me straight in the eyes. I rolled my eyes and stood ready, next to her.

There was a long silence. It was broken by the members, battle-roaring and running towards. I was surrounded by 10 people. I tried to grab my sword, but there wasn’t enough space for me to swing it with force. I grabbed my black smoke bomb and threw it in the air. Right before it hit the ground, it exploded and black smoke was every where. I covered my mouth with a scarf that I always had with me. I heard loud coughing and I ran straight forward, kicking someone in his face. I stepped out of the circle and grabbed my sword and started to beat people up.

As I took down the sixth person, I heard a scream that cause to sent a shiver down my spine. It was the scream from Nanami! I hit the seventh person in his head and took a look at her. She was lying on her back on the ground and she was heavily panting. 

‘Nanami, what the hell are you doing? Get the fuck up!’ I screamed at her. Her eyes opened as she heard my voice and immediately closed again. With a normal smile on her face, she brought herself on her feet again. She opened her eyes and the psychotic grin appeared on her face again. The man, she was fighting, started to take steps back as he saw that grin.

‘Watch out!’ I heard someone scream at me. Before I had even turned around, everything had turned black.
